I'm very grateful for those of you that have dedicated time to making this great resource available.

I was hoping that someone could seed - I promise to seed for a week straight once I finish downloading!

Thanks all,
-Chris

for the sake of your ISP and folks sharing the internet, this file should be broken down into smaller parts.

Better yet, just provide links directly to the pdfs and videos, so people can download what they want instead of the entire 7GB file.

I have tons of web space, and I am willing to donate some space to the cause on the condition that the file is broken up into manageable pieces.

Actually, most torrent clients will allow you to only download the files in the archive you want. So it is effectively already broken down into files. Command line torrent clients sometimes don't have this feature... or if they do it is much harder to use.

Often the only way to determine if the file is something you want is to download it and look at it.

The Internet being what it is.... I have all too often saved a link to a resource I would like to look at later only to find that page has gone and the information lost to me forever.... I seem to have lived just fine without it mind you   Still, I tend to download the whole mess rather than end up missing something I wanted later.

Finally, doing download after download because I want a lot of files can be a real pain It is nice to do it all at once.

well, I have at least 2/3 of those files already, no need to waste 7GB of bandwidth to re-download them!

when you first open the torrent file, most torrent clients give a list of the files included with all of them checked for download. If you want almost all of them then just uncheck the ones you don't want. If you only want a few there is normally a toggle button that will uncheck all of them and then you can check the few you do want. I have used three different torrent clients and all of them work this way. You can even uncheck them all and then by checking one at a time, download the files one at a time. Seems like the best of both worlds to me.

yeah, if you're using a torrent, that might work, but most folks are going to be trying to download from their web site.

At the very least, they could break it up so that the videos and the documents are 2 different files.

And are all of these files non-copyrighted (I know a few of them on there ARE copyrighted)?

Ah, sorry, The last half of this thread is about downloading from a torrent.... I had forgotten about the original web site. My mistake...

As it happens, the torrent has done that... the videos are not included. A video torrent may show up at some time.

This is more of a problem. I know some are not... as I was able to download them from other places. I think it is up to the reader to ensure each file is not when they open them. Delete is pretty easy. If I start finding a lot are cr, it would be just as easy to dump the whole thing. There are already a few files I got else where that have been sent to write only memory...

Seeding until 1100 GMT (0600 CST, 0400 PST) Friday morning, then will not be back until mid-week after that.

Is there anyone else still seeding? Everytime I check I'm the only one...

No one downloading.... no one asking for seeds... someone asks, I'll start seeding again.

I'm using Vuze, looked for the torrent and couldn't find it.  I am a board member of Green Temiskaming and our website can host at least some of this.  Can I get some help getting the files.  A search on VUZE for Off_the_Grid_Texts found nothing.

Actually, if you just look a few posts up, the original person uploaded the torrent to their post. Just download that, and change the file extension to .torrent and open that up in Vuze.

OK, got that, Vuze is now trying to download it so I guess it's just waiting for someone to seed it if I understand correctly.  If so it should pick that up automatically when it comes available, have I got that right?

This stuff looks very interesting.  Mind if I get a seed?

Thanks for making it available and the seed!

I run Linux so I should be up for a while in case someone else wants a copy...however, I'm new
to torrents and may not be doing it correctly.

Ok, maybe I don't understand the terminology.  I would like to download the file(?).  I already have that little txt file renamed to .torrent (is that correct?). And I double clicked on it, that started my torrent program and it looks like it is waiting to download....  Am I doing something wrong or did I misspeak?

Help!

I'm not sure what is going on. I am seeding and my client shows a seeder and a peer (I'm guessing thats you). but I show no upload.... Not sure whats up. When I was downloading before there was some up loading and when I first started seeding too, but it seems there are only some peers who can connect. Some ISPs set things so that one local user can't see another to keep people from doing attacks on other local systems... maybe something like that. See if you can ping 207.200.139.18 if you can't you will need someone else to seed who you can ping. (easy way to see your own IP is to look at one of the messages you sent... where it says logged on others yours will have your IP)

The set-up using that small file never found the download.  I searched again using the search function in Vuse and it found it.  Even though it was the same title the other setup never found it.  If you are having problems finding you might do another search using your torrent client.  Am showing only 23% of the file as available though.

I am not sure how torrents work (i.e. where the files are stored - people's own computers it seems vs. a central location - or how that little ".torrent" file gets you to the larger file, or if all of the various torrent programs are compatible) but my program "Transmission" on Linux shows that I've been downloading since last night sometime, that I'm at almost 62%, I'm downloading from 2 of 2 connected peers (does that mean two people are sharing their file with me?) and that I have four hours to go.  I hope this is of some help.

Are all torrent programs compatible or connected (I'm not sure of what technical words to use to mean: "does my program know to look everywhere for this file)?  Like I said, I am using "Transmission" on Linux and it apparently knew where to look for the original connect (I started out with one peer) but then found the second one recently.  So somehow these programs know where to look to find others who are sharing this file.  So basically, I'm not sure why Vuse didn't show my 62% and the other two that appear to have the entire file.  Nor why you'd have to search for it again.

Wish I knew this.  lol.

Hi Everyone,

Been away from my computer for a bit-)  We are currently hosted with Grassroots.org - a great host for non-profits but quite limiting with their basic plan and quite expensive to upgrade and therefore we are reviewing "Green" hosts that offer unlimited data and transfers at a price that we can afford so that we can make the files individually available to everyone.  We will post here as soon as they become available.  Thank you all for your patience,

Scott
