new farm, recording studio, WV

   Hello Everybody!  I'm Jimmy.  This site is awesome... i've been addicted since I discovered it!  I've been lurking around for a little while now, and thought I introduce myself, and say a bit about what we are doing.

   A group of friends, my brother, and myself have bought 12 acres in Hedgesville, WV that has been in the family name for a while.  Lots of ideas for the land, but lets start with planting!  At the moment, I am working on about two acres of hilly holzer-wannabe raised beds which will function as a kitchen/market garden. (I'll start a thread with pics on that soon!)  A large portion of the land will be converted to forest garden.  I also have a lot of experimental plans for the land.  One of my more esoteric interests is in fractal patterns in nature, chaotic attractors influencing natural patterns, geometric and energetic effects on living organisms, etc... at the cosmological level down the the homefront!  So I will be experimenting with mathematically accurate fibbonachi spiral beds, pyramid greenhouses, fractal terraforming, etc.

   Another large emphasis in our project is music.  We are going to be setting up a recording studio and record label on the land.  I am a classical pianist, rock'n'roller and more.  My brother is a fiddle player, and plays in a band called the Fox Hunt ( http://thefoxhunt.net/ )  Two of his bandmates will be living with us as well.  So we will be doing recordings, festivals, concerts, and more!  I'll try and keep ya posted on everything that goes on!  ...in the meanwhile, does anyone have any comfrey (officinale) seeds/plantlings?

Isn't that the truth!    I've been thinking a lot lately about balance between man-imposed mathematical models of nature, and the idea that nature might express herself through unified mathematics as a sort of byproduct... The first thing that made me think that was the huge occurence of the Fibbonachi ration in all of nature, from the spiral of a seashell to that of a galaxy.  Marko Rodin talks a lot about how old mathematics are false quantifications of nature by man, but that nature may express herself in a matrix of 1-9, which can be decifered by the unified field theory.  Wouldn't it be cool if we could somehow chart the matrix expression of our properties like a survey chart, then know exactly what land acupuncture to apply to create a harmonic resonance?  Once the unified field theory and morphic resonance become more defined in the scientific world, they may be the next great tool for permaculturalists and people like us.
Heh, once I get started about nature and mathematics, you can never shut me up.

I have often been curious how Fibonacci's name got attached to the "Golden Ratio", as Plato and Euclid both described it 1500 years before, and the Egyptians had been using it to build pyramids several thousand years before that.

Ya, thats kinda funny isn't it?  He only used it as an example in his liber abaci, and most likely got a lot of it from Indian mathematicians while working on the book of calculations,,, but it seems like it was the first time the sequence was introduced to his part of the world, and ever since he's been pinned to it.
