I planted rows of hulless oats this year in the garden. I did rows about 8" apart, 12' long and sprinkled seed in rather heavily. More sprouted than I expected and I'm wondering if they're too thick. Any opinions?
Thanks Joshua, good idea to leave at least one row alone to see how it does. Cutting is another good idea, pulling could impact the neighbors too much. If no one else replies, I'll do some random stuff, see how it goes and report back.
That actually looks like a good oats stand to me. I would not bother thinning, if they are over crowded the plants will do the thinning for you.
I like to plant wheat, oats and barley very thickly for a maximum yield in as small an area as possible.
