Bypass pruners by Black and Decker

I give this tool 2 out of 10 acorns.  I purchased this at Menards to prune my apple trees.  After about the 10th cut on small branches it broke.  These were green branches and none were even close to a Sharpie marker in diameter, most were pencil sized.  Yes, it broke while cutting green twigs.  Good thing it was free (Menards rebate) or I'd have given it 1 acorn.

Was it the cast pot metal handle that broke? These look exactly like a pair that I bought, branded as Fiskars, which snapped while pruning some soft persimmon twigs all of 1 cm in diameter. I may fashion a new handle out of a bit of scrap steel.

2 acorns was generous...I'd give it one. No tool which acts in leverage should be made of lightweight crap castings.

I returned it to the store (so they could at least get their money back) so I can't look at it to check.  But I'm pretty sure the cast "metal" broke around the small phillips screw that attaches the blade to the metal at the top of the picture.

I agree, 2 acorns was generous but I figured it's still a low enough score to get the point across

ive owned many types but i like the basic model corona at lowes. you will never break these things. heavy solid steel handles, holds a sharp edge . when and if you wear out the blade, there replaceable. $20 at lowes.
