This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Community.

In this Badge Bit, you  must organize a flash flea market, collective garage sale, or free swap that last at least 2 hours and has at least 8 people attend.

How to plan a Garage Sale

- Organizing a Garage Sale
- Using TallySheet App to Organize a Garage Sale

How to Plan a Flea Market

- Flea Market as a Business

Planning a Community Clothing Swap (for Example)

- Organize a Community Swap and Meet
- Throw on a Community Swap

The minimum requirements for this BB are:
- the market/sale/swap must last at least 2 hours
- the market/sale/swap must have at least 8 adult attendees (can be sellers and/or shoppers

To document this Badge Bit:
- post a picture or link to the method you used to attract people to show up (e.g. fliers, FaceBook posts, newspaper ads)
- post a pic of the event (with countable people) at several times over the course of the event to prove 8 people attended
- if it's a small event, post pics of the event and a clock at the start and end

Are there age restrictions for attendees? Like do babies and toddlers count?

We will be swapping baby stuff.

Great question.  Based on some other Community Badge stuff we've been working on, I think the idea for this would be to have 8 shoppers or sellers (or any combination).  So I'm guessing it would only count each person that has a wallet/purse.  A couple shopping together probably counts at two since they both likely have purchase capabilities but I'm thinking kids and especially toddlers wouldn't count.

Philosophically it wouldn't seem like that glorious a BB if two different parents, each with their 3 kids in two counted for the whole shebang.

(I adjusted the requirements accordingly)

Would a community fair count? 1500 visitors, cake stalls, books stall, plants etc...

Did that last year fundraising for my sons school.

Event 1 - a village wide “garage safari sale”. We ran our own stall and helped promote and organise. Had around 150 people come past over the day and sold everything pictured, plus about 50 plants in pots that my son had propagated (mint, comfrey, chives).

The photos were from before the event, when we posted pics on our local Facebook site.

Dog box for sale, but by that time of the day we would have accepted offers on the child

If you organized it, I'd say it counts.

I suspect you need to be the primary organizer for this BB to count.  As in you're doing most of the organizing work.  If so and if you have the required pictures, it would definitely count.

Here is the event page for the village community fundraiser I ran. I was chair of the committee of 6 - 3 of the others dropped out for various reasons and a fourth broke her leg 5 days before. It was a little stressful.

Takings of over £4500 for the school, and other organisations had their own takings.

Some years ago now, I was the lead organizer for a "Local Re-conomy Weekend" which included this Really Really Free Market event.

Attached, the flyer for the RRFM, and two pics of it in progress including more than 8 people.

Hi Kevin, I think that would count.  This might be hard to prove, but do you have any evidence that you did the organizing?

As we try to approve BBs it's sometimes tricky to determine if the person submitting it, actually did the thing.  The "requirements" at the top don't currently require that sort of evidence but it would sure help set a good precedent.
