This is a badge bit (BB) that is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in textiles.

In this project, you will quilt a pillowcase.

Here are some tutorials on quilting a pillowcase:

This is my first pieced quilt and my first pillowcase as well. I can see where I made mistakes, but overall I’m proud of this.
I used cotton and cotton batting. The cotton fabric was salvaged from old shirts and an even older denim blanket. The cotton batting was leftover from a previous project.
I used a fold over closure for the pillow, like on a pillow sham. It was the best fit for the fabric cuts I had to work with.

A scrappy quilted pillowcase to spruce up my pillow from the sand project.

I used a technique where we assemble the strips and the backing simultaneously. It allows for strips of varying widths and lengths, so it's great to use up small scraps.

(15 strips, but two are barely visible at the corners)

(And in the spirit of my grandma, quilts are to be made from leftovers and old clothing, and must have a certain free-spirit. She would roll in her grave if I actually bought new fabric to make a quilt.)
