The “give away committee” thing is the idea that a person could back for six physical books and arrange for some of those to go to “the give away committee” - and find a good home for the books.  Possibly high school libraries, or maybe youth counsellors or ....  well I think it would be good to get a thread going to discuss all the possibilities.

Any other ideas?

How much would be the shipping costs to Madrid (Spain)

It will definitely be more expensive.

We could just ship stuff from here, but that will probably add about $60 to the cost of shipping.  Ug.   On the other hand, for six books that are unsigned, it is possible that we could set up with a "print one book at a time" service in europe, and my quickie math says that that would add about $35 to the cost.  So still kinda nuts - but less nuts.

Hi, I'm the one who sent you the email.
Maybe there is an option to buy the books in a printer friendly format, so I can print with time in my printer.
I prefer paper books (sorry) and perhaps that would be an option.

Best regards
Manu

I'm not a graphic designer, but I do work in print as a prepress operator. If you need any help setting up print files, let me know (though, I'm sure you have all the help you need without my offering).

So you might be good at reviewing our layout stuff?

Question About Kickstarter: To pay the $5 in shipping, would one just donate a total of $20 or is there a different way to pay the shipping costs?

It is important that we don't use the word "donate" for a bunch of reasons - at the top of the list is that donation stuff is not allowed on kickstarter.   The idea is to buy a thing before it is ready to be bought.

If you select the $15 reward, and you are in the US, if we get funded, you will part with $20.   $15 for the book and $5 for shipping ...  and the little box ... and the fondling of the box ....  and making sure we get the right label on the right box ....   etc.

Does this help paint a picture?

Tonya,

I have put your offer and info into our layout notes stuff.  If the kickstarter is a success and we go through with the layout to get the book printed I think you will hear from us!  :)

Mike and I just had a very long meeting about rewards.   Lots of changes.

Half the conversation started with the $100 level and how the shipping costs are absolutely psychotic outside of the US.  He has a strategy to mitigate that with books being printed in other parts of the world.  But when we did that with BWB a couple of years ago, we ended up sending two packages - very expensive (one where the books were printed in far off lands, and another with a single signed copy from the US).

So after lots of wrangling ...

$100 JUMBO (+15 in shipping)
  - 12 Physical Books, or 36 eBook Gift Codes, or a mix of each!
  - “give away committee” option
  - plus name in book (top of the list, plus bigger font!)
  - plus one copy is signed (US only)
  - permaculture bootcamp fee is covered
  - swap books for BWB books or permaculture cards (US only)
  + everything in CANDY
  + everything in THANKS

As best I could figure, 5 SKIP books, 1 signed SKIP book, 4 BWB books and 2 decks of cards to Europe would cost something like $90.  And that's with "Print On Demand" overseas.

My guess is that just shipping it directly from here would be around $110 or so.

My guess is that with this change to the $100 level that shipping outside the US would be something like $45?

Yup, 12 books printed in Europe and shipped to Munich, Germany is $49.75 shipping.  Another challenge is that we'd be printing on demand in a nearby country, which costs more than when we buy 50,000 books in Montana. The penalty for printing small amounts locally is another $25.  So the rough cost of overseas shipping is around $75.

Luckily more of those costs go to the local printers in those countries and less weight is shipped across the ocean
