This badge bit (BB) is part of the PEP curriculum.  Completing this BB is part of getting the straw badge in textiles.

In this project, you will make a leather sheath to protect a knife.

Minimum requirements:
  - make a leather knife blade sheath
  - will be sewn, no commercial glue
  - will have a belt loop
  - will have a closure, such as a snap, to secure the knife in the sheath
  - will be designed in a way that the knife won't easily cut the stitching
  - will be designed so that the sheath won't dull the knife (i.e no metal)

To document completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pics or video (< 2min):
  - Your materials and tools.
  - Making the sheath.
  - Show the belt loop.
  - Show the closure to hold in the knife.
  - The finished sheath holding the knife.

Once again, I made something that almost qualifies for the BB. I made this knife sheath for an Opinel No. 09 folding knife -  a beautiful piece of kit that lots of people use in the UK and, I presume, in France.

I wet-formed the leather using a crude, homemade mould that I coated in paper tape. I then trimmed and burnished the edges of this top piece, stitched on a back piece and then began work on the belt loop/hoop/strap. I skived (thinned and tapered) the ends of the strap so that they would join neatly and sit flush with the body of the sheath. I then stitched each side using 4-stitches in a square to secure it. Finally, I assembled everything, holding it together with clothes pegs(!), punched my stitching holes and then saddle-stitched the front and back pieces together.

The leather I used is a 2.5-3.5mm thick bridle shoulder, tanned traditionally using oak bark from J&FJ Baker in Devon, UK.
