Permies is a huge site, but we have fun ways to help you learn all the neat things we can do here - Scavenger Hunts! There are multiple levels of scavenger hunts, each with more to explore and do. Even staff have them (but those are top secret)!

To find your current scavenger hunt, go to your profile page and scroll down until you see the scavenger hunt section.

You probably already have a number of the items checked off already! Can you finish the rest of them? Once you complete the scavenger hunt, you will get the Pioneer Title under your name!

Here's a rundown of all of all the items on the scavenger hunt.

Step
1

Number Posts (100)

Good posts are what builds the Permies community. It's how we ask and answer questions, share projects and information, and encourage one another. We do have publishing standards, which help keep Permies a friendly place where even gentle souls feel welcome. You can read about those here - permies.com publishing standards.

Wondering how you can make those 100 posts for your scavenger hunt?
  • You'll find all of the latest discussions on our main forums page.
  • Have a question but don't know where to ask it? You can browse all of our forums here.
  • Our Projects Forum is a great place to share your homesteading and permaculture projects.
  • If you have questions about Permies forums and how they're run, you can post those questions in the Tinkering with this site forum.
  • You can welcome new members in the Introductions forum.
  • Look for posts with zero replies. You may not be able to answer all of them, but it's a good way to encourage others.

  • If you're still having trouble, you can find some fun places to post in our meaningless drivel forum.

    Step
    2

    Number Threads Started (25)

Asking permaculture and homesteading related questions is a great way to start a thread. Another way is to share your projects.  First choose a forum (you can find a list of all our forums here), then select the "new topic" button at the top right of the forum page.

Give it a subject line, and write your post!

    Step
    3

    Number Apples Received (5)

Apples are the Permies reward for excellent posts. Posts that earn apples are friendly posts that are especially helpful, that contain good information, photos, useful links, how-tos, or explanations of topics you're familiar with.

    Step
    4

    Number Likes Received (10)

Likes are the thumbs up icon on the top right of every post.

You earn likes by making kind and helpful posts!

    Step
    5

    Number Likes Granted (10)

Everybody likes getting likes! If a post is helpful, click that thumbs up and give it a like! It encourages others to make good posts.

    Step
    6

Set bumper stickers in profile (2)

Bumper stickers are those nifty blue icons under everybody's name when they post. They are a great way to share and promote your interests. If you haven't added them to your profile yet, here's how - bumper stickers are now available!!

    Step
    7

Include three media in a single post (1)

We encourage posts that are rich in media. This includes any combination of relevant:
  • website links
  • images
  • videos

  • You'll find more on adding images and videos in the next two steps.

    Step
    8

Create a post with an image (3)

"A picture is worth a thousand words," and when it comes to sharing projects or how-tos, pictures are invaluable. We encourage you to make posts with pictures!

There are two ways you can add images to your post. You'll find instructions for both of them here: How to Post an Image on Permies.com

    Step
    10

Create a post with a youtube or vimeo video (4)

Videos are another helpful resource, and you have the choice of embedding videos from youtube or vimeo.

These work best if you use the forum buttons. If you need help on how to do this, check out our How to post a video on Permies

To embed youtube shorts, please see this tutorial - How to Embed Youtube Shorts on Permies

Did you do it? Congratulations! We're glad you're here on Permies!

If you have any questions about scavenger hunts or anything regarding Permies, please feel free to ask them in our Tinkering with this site forum.
