This is a badge bit (
BB) that is part of the
PEM curriculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the
straw badge in
Dimensional Lumber Woodworking.
We've done some basic carpentry so far and now it's time to bump it up a notch. And to stop sleeping on the floor... Let's make a nice bed frame!
Here's a gentleman showing us one way to do it:
Minimum requirements:
- Make a bed frame from dimensional lumber
- At least sized for a 38 x 74 inch
mattress
- Bottom surface of mattress is at least 8" off the ground
- Includes a headboard
- Exposed
wood is not standard construction lumber
- Clearly strong
enough to support Uncle Frank rolling around (250 lbs)
- Use decent woodworking joinery techniques
-
Rabbits, dados, dowels, dovetails, half laps, etc
- Not relying on pocket hole screws, simple overlaps, many exposed fasteners, etc
Provide proof of the following as pictures or
video (<2 min):
- The lumber you're going to use for this
project
- Several stages during construction
- Several views of finished bed frame with proof of minimum dimensions if it isn't obvious
