I give this online course 10 out of 10 acorns!
If I had to distill the value of this course down into one massively weighted speck of treasure, it would be that Joseph and Julia reveal the accessibility of landrace gardening. Perceived barriers to landracing are greatly reduced, and I'm left with the confidence that I can do this, given the knowledge shared.
I would recommend this course to anyone interested in breeding plants adapted to their local conditions.
I haven't joined the Discourse community, so I won't cover that in my review.

Quality of content 10/10
The course is taught by people who are living this method of gardening and farming. Experts share their experience and knowledge, usually right in the garden so we can see exactly what is being discussed. There is a pleasant balance struck between the information necessary to get started, and the reasoning behind landracing.

Amount/length of content 10/10
The course is rich with info, but not bloated.
Because of how the chapters are divided up into modules, I never feel overwhelmed by the lessons. And because the course is self-paced, I am under no pressure to complete anything by any deadline. Convenient! If I had a garden, I might want to complete this course between harvest and planting or seed-starting. Given its moderate length I think it would be possible to take the course more than once in that time.

Format of content 10/10
Information is nicely balanced between text and videos, with a photos and diagrams included. Visual quality of videos is good. I find the audio quality to be especially clear. Text is well-written and understandable. There are minimal visual distractions away from the content, which my learning-brain appreciates. Links to outside resources or relevant community discussions are included, too. Self-reflection questions are scattered through the course which can be answered in the Discussion section.

Ease of navigation 10/10
I find course navigation to be intuitive. It's easy to check on your progress, and it's easy to open up the Discussion section to see what others have asked or shared, or share your own comments.

Instructor interaction 10/10
Instructors are active in responding to questions or issues in the Discussion section.

I am really, really enjoying the course so far (64% completed!) and plan to re-take it when I'm finished.

Thank you Sara.

When Julia asked if she could interview me for this course, I said "Only if you use professional grade recording equipment". She excelled, and even brought a fancy camera stabilizer.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, and Julia for all the behind the scenes work. I'm just starting to realize how deep the Going to Seed resources go.

Good call re: the equipment! The videos are really good quality. Steady camera holders are a treasure.

I am joining in.

I still do not have a good land and spare time for landracing, but I certainly want to know how to do it, just for when the occasion arises.

I give this online course 10 out of 10 acorns!

I first became aware of Joseph Lofthouse through his articles in Mother Earth News. They were a few years old when I found them, and they thrilled me. He was still selling seed directly for silver dimes, so I got some and sent them off. Somewhere in there I started reading here at Permies more seriously. Then his book came out and I devoured that. Julia mentioned this course in a post here, while it was in-development and I found her Vimeo feed and watched all the videos as she was creating them, and once she was building an actual course, I offered to help with proofing and editing. I was a very early adopter, but getting the word out was important. I've gone through the class and participated in conversations and I've enjoyed it and been informed greatly. It isn't the most polished set of videos I've ever seen, but in some ways that helps it feel more personal, which I value.

You've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, tiny ad?
