To me that means "time to clean the keyboard!"  

I forget what was bad for me a while back, something I use all the time, like N or something, and I didn't have time to clean it for a week. ARGH!

Odd that it's only the 't' key. All others are fine! But I will do a little cleaning....

True, but it's amazing how readable many sentences still are when there's only a problem with a single letter, particularly once you figure out the likely problem.

Have you tried blowing out the keyboard with compressed air, or figuring out how to remove the key and cleaning under it?

Many years ago I had a keyboard resisting being cleaned, the bad key still didn't work. When I pulled it apart, there was a sequin under it. Someone sews while at the computer...

This happened to me with either the k or j when I was trying to finish writing my philosophy thesis on the Teleological Suspension of the Ethical in college, with way too little time to spare. I copied the letter and just used command-v (paste) to get it done. It certainly didnt help my typing speed, but I did probably write a shorter paper because of it, which was probably my professor’s preference.

This is all just my opinion based on a flawed memory

It sounds like you have something caught beneath the key that is interfering with the switch. You can carefully pull off keyboard keys which will expose a weird plastic latch and a "plunger" over the switch. Give that all a good clean (slightly damp, lint-free cloth or even a little solvent) and reassemble.

I haven't done anything with regard to cleaning the keyboard except turning the laptop over and whacking the bottom and blowing on the keys. Neither worked. However, we did have a wireless keyboard lying around that my wife had won (along with a lot of Logitech gear) and decided to try that. After setting it up, it works just fine. Laptop is sitting on my coffee table; I'm on the couch with the wireless keyboard and mouse on a laptop lap-pad thingy.  I also had to reset the system and browser settings for a much bigger font size (laptop is about a yard away from me.)

That's how the Japanese always traditionally wrote - no spaces between the words. It drove me up the wall because I was learning to read when I didn't speak the language all that well!

Well that sure sounds like a nightmare...

I remember German being like that, combining all relevant, connected words into one. I wish I could remeberwhat the electronic status panel for our building was labeled. IT was at least 30 characters long.

Also, I recentlylearnedagerman word (you thought I was joking about the spacebar eh?) that I am enamored of: Wohlstandsverwahrlosung: A state of decay that results from having it easy for so long that you begin to compare your petty grievances and mediocre accomplishments to the pain and struggle of people facing real problems. If I could readily pronounce it I would probably say it 500 times a day!

Well, it turns out that it was much more serious than a dirty 't' key. I forget what the Guy Behind the Counter Who Also Owns the Store said, but something like the pad beneath the key was stuck. This would cause serious issues, like when he turned the old MacBookAir on, it booted into target recovery mode. (Or was it target disk mode? Whatever as I'm not sure what that is anyway since I've never used it in all my Mac years.) So I bought a new(er) MBA. It's refurbished, like the old one. The Guy Behind the Counter Who Also Owns the Store tried to do a data transfer of everything from the old to the new(er) but after 90 minutes (actually, closer to two hours) it failed. The old SSD drive disconnected itself. This Is Not A Good Thing, said Guy Behind the Counter Who Also Owns the Store, and may be a sign the old Mac was beginning to depart for the Great Apple Store in the Sky.

So, I'm home. The new MBA is (mostly) set up and now I can resume normal activities.

The old MBA is currently being backed up before it dies;
