I was going to recommend Ruth Stout's no-work gardening stuff and Patrick Whitefield's "The Earth Care Manual", which I see are already in Paul's list. I'll just say that there's everything and more in that list. There's even some I'll be checking out...

You might think about reading Gia's garden first; and do the basics. the permaculture manual and ones like it are pretty heavy reading. what I think you need to do first is get the basics and the language down before tackle the hard stuff.

I suspect he hears this frequently, but Ernie's right. Ruth Stout is on the entry-level light-reading side. Whitefield's "Manual" is a dense, textbook-style read. Good catch Mr. Wisner.
