I'd avoid the treated wood as well. I think the wood chips would do a better job of mulching over the weeds to make a planting area. Significant proportions of wood chips aren't recommended for a hugel.

Trimmed pieces from treated wood have many useful purposes IMO. I keep all my treated wood ends. Burning them seems a waste; by design, they don't readily break down in contact with living soil. Why not leverage that? A few ideas:
- chocks behind wheels
- place under rubber tires for parked vehicles/trailers to prevent tire rot
- place under trailer jacks to prevent sinking/freezing in
- use as shims to raise/level small movable buildings, or protect the structure from rot
- if all else fails, stack them at the end of your driveway with a "free" sign; quite a few may disappear as knowing people drive by
