Hey everyone,
I have been coasting these forums now for the better part of an entire weekend! Just came across this idea of permaculture and its exactly what i have been looking for and sort of doing on my own already... I have been into this idea of homesteading and such and finally i was able to find the movement? that supports this and sustainability etc etc... Anyway... I'm really new at this.. Don't much know where to begin or start but would really like to start getting my hands dirty in all of it..

Forums and interwebz are great for quick info but im much more of a face to face kinda person and also highly believe a big part of this type of change involves communities and personal exchanges of knowledge & technique.. I think you guys get it?

Havent seen much activity from CT peoples on here yet... And i would really like to start pushing my community to embrace this stuff and spread the word... SO... any CT people out there wanna start some type of monthly meet up crew? Im sure we could all benefit from something like this? I would be willing to organize this thing if people are interested? Maybe even getting some workshops around here eventually and exciting things like that?

Also.. would definitely be interested in at some point working on some type of yearly New England conference? (if theres not any out there already? again, im new to this and havent spent real long looking around) in other words would be interested in working with MA, ME, VT, NH crews also?

let me know if anyone's interested!

so far i have 5 little acres... 12 chickens... a wife, two tiny ones, and a nice garden..

cant wait to get a lot more going...!

later

I am a CT native as well and am new to Permies. Great idea to try to do some sort of meet up especially because so much of permaculture is tied to place.

What part of CT are you in? I am a permie (took PDC and Advanced PDC for Teaching) living in Branford CT at the moment. We've only lived here for a year and I've been slowly piecing together info about the bio-region.

If you want to set something up, let me know. I could come and do an intro to permaculture talk or something perhaps.

Hi Earl,

Thanks for posting this. I live in Bristol as well and would be interested in meeting and learning from others. So I'm certainly interested. That being said LocalHarvest.org has a good listing of workshops and events in our area. I'm attending Edible Landscape workshop this weekend. But certainly count me in and since we're close PM me and we can share thoughts. I'm interested also in getting a community garden/farm here in Bristol and was going to reach to others on how to begin that process. But I appreciate your initiative in getting something started. Aaron

Half a dozen is not a bad start... sorry, Ive been away from the interwebz for a while and I know I started this thread... So.. with that in mind and since september is really close now... Why dont we try to figure out a cool place and time to meet up around mid- October? Maybe somewhere central Ct-ish? Keep posting if people are interested? Later.

Count me in for mid October.

I also came across hgconnsoil.com. If you check there workshops and seminars they have permaculture type events planned but not dates set.

Alright... been busy but here it is... me and aaron have met up a couple times to trade some plants and cuttings.. we both reside in bristol ct and not far from each other... a new micro brewery has opened up in town, i havent been there but they seem very supportive of community and such. thats a good thing and i hear the beer is really good, which is a better thing.. so plans are to try and meet up next thursday... Nov. 14 somewhere around 6 - 8 pm... the place closes at 8. Not sure who wants to show up or who doesnt mind driving out to bristol but for now that seems like a great meet-up place...

if people wanna show up thats great, i will be there... hope to see some of you guys there.

Oooh, I missed this thread the first time around too but I'm interested. I'm in southern Rhode Island nit too far from the Connecticut border. I'd be interested in meeting up. We have a few acres, some chickens, some little ones and permaculture on my mind. I have somefruit trees and bushes, a.couple of hugelbeets and gardens. I have wwoofers in the warm weather.

It would be fun to have farm tour potlucks when the weather is cold, and what about work parties/workshops when the weather warms?

I'm planning a seed swap around the spring equinox if anyone is interested!

I'm sure we can put something together this year. I just wanted to let others know in case they didn't that Eric Toensmeier lives in MA. He's a great resource for our climate and establishing perennial systems. I have been watching his youtube videos and they are simple with great information.

Hi Everyone.
I'm new to the forum. I'm in Canton, which is in the Farmington Valley just north of Collinsville.
I'm just starting a new permaculture farm. There's a total of 24 acres; I'll be clearing 2 acres this summer and cutting in contour swales and planting
25 types of groundcover
22 cultivars of apples,
A myriad of pears, plums, cherries, nuts, berries, and support plants.
A real adventure!
I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all.

I wish I could say I've been lazy this year but I've got a just about three year old and a just about one year old so I've been pretty much going insane! Lol... But a couple of us met up last fall and I would be very much interested and trying to jump start something up again? I know me and Aaron are both from bristol and James drove out all the way from Woodstock to meet... So we owe him a meetup on that side of the state... So whoever was in RI that would probably work out pretty well.

@bob.. Would love to check out your 5 acre plot.. I have 5 acres too and pretty much in the noob stages of planning things out, would love to see what you have done.

@jeffrey... I'm really close to canton and I teach at farmington high school so someday on my way home I would really be interested in checking out your project! Sounds like I could learn a lot!

If people are interested post back and we can drum up some dates to meet up and grab a beer or snack or whatever!

Maybe something in late may?

We'll be going with our kids. We were thinking that earlier the better to avoid any crowd. A good meeting spot could be the creamery next door.
We were also thinking to go to the Hart Seed Co. just up the block while there.

I just discovered Permaculture but have been growing Heirloom seeds from Comstock Ferre for a couple years and added chickens. I have a few friends who also love digging in the dirt, we love sharing ideas and knowlege with fellow natural gardeners.
