Looking for Permies in Ohio

It would be great to be able to come out to Missoula and be a part of the community out there but it doesn't seem possible right now. Though, things are always subject to change. I would like to know if there are any Permies in Ohio that are working on forming a community there. I don't have the opportunity to get out much. That's partly due to my physical condition and, also because I don't have any wheels to drive around in.

It's been a dream of mine to have a group of folks to live with on a piece of land and be as self-sustaining as possible. I don't seem it as something I could do on my own for health and financial reason. Always seems to be better to have companions along the way, especially when it comes to purchasing land. So, I'd really be interested in communicating with folks in Ohio who have already started a group or who might be interested in moving in that direction.

It would sure be great to hear from you.

Newbie here, Hi all. Just purchase an older Ranch home(fixer) on 3 acres in NE Ohio(Amish country)including 2 acres of thin forest, free natural gas and artesian water. Permaculture seems so interesting and will definitely follow this site and learn. Was also thinking of utilizing some Amish wisdom in our new project.

I'm in NE Ohio, I live in Massillon (a few miles west of Canton and about a half hour south of Akron). My wife and I live on a little 1/10 acre lot. We are looking to find land and hope to move within 5 years. The trend seems to be southern Ohio or Carolina's. Looking for more stable (warmer) climate year round.

I consider myself more of a permie fan than a full fledged permie. Like on the road to becoming a permie.

Hi Sean! Yeah Ohio is big enough but there are great land deals closer to PA and we needed to be within a short drive to Buffalo. Like yourself we're not full out permies but plan on using some of the great ideas as we can ...1st on the list is a ram pump.

WHADDUP MY OHIO PERMIES!! PRAISE JEEBUS! Sorry for the sarcasm, but really i'm happy to find you all on this thread. I've felt so alone... in darkness, an isolated permie like an onion bulb forgotten in you garage trying to sprout without light and sun's warmth. I'm from aurora, ohio; just outside the fair port city of Cleveland. I think i read all the posts and am i correct in thinking so far im the only one from NorthEast ohio? what evs tho, my girlfriend of 5 years in going to osu for another 2 years so ill be taking semi-regular trips there atleast until then... maybe i could meet up with some of you from our states great capital? check out your creations? And visa versa. If you guys are ever in the Cleveland-Akron are hit me up. I live about 40 minutes outside downtown of both those cities. I go to Tri-c for Nursery Management, and by this spring will have a nice collection of woodies and edible perennials... already got some but in a few months im going to expand that a bunch and turn my parents property into a food forest! Also have a decent sized annual veggie garden 35 by 30. There's a native cranberry bog and maybe 100 blueberry bushes just existing indigenous in the woods by my house; you could attain some of that material for you own site if you want.

Dundee / Strasburg O here...so close to Holmes co I can touch it! Have couple acres with a failed pond which trying to figure out how to get it back to where it needs to be. Course it did not help when an Amish man came in next door to log...he has huge tracks and water going everywhere. Told him IF he did not fix that mess here soon, I was getting up way early and follow him in to church. Bet the elders would love to hear what he did....Amish with vehicles= scary!

So there I was, lurking on the forums, meandering aimlessly and up pops a series of posts that include "Ashtabula County" and "Orwell" (words seldom seen outside the Star Beacon online edition). Holy cats!

Not calling myself a permie, but my wife and I try to eke out a responsible life on just over half an acre. The garden is growing larger and the lawn is diminishing more every year. The veggies are bolstered by a healthy dose of chicken crap, courtesy of our five girls, and watered from collected rain distributed with a solar powered pump. I am learning more every day and experimenting with new ideas as time allows. One day, all this work will convince me we are ready to move farther out so I don't have to haggle with the neighbors over bee boxes.
