This weekend is a very important weekend to my little village. We host an annual 'Tractor Parade' which involves local farms and businesses decorating tractors with wagons with twinkle lights. These tractors gather and proceed down the main street of the village to the delight of onlookers. It has grown to be a large event bringing in quadruple the population to watch these dressed up tractors trudge along to music and fanfare.

It is a wonderful time!

There is a crossroad in northern MN named Debs. I think there is a general store there …maybe a church….a few houses….gravel streets. Every July 4 th thousands of people show up for the July 4th celebration. At least this was the case in the mid 80s.

I just checked on the net. Debs has a pop of 3 according to Wiki. The July 4 celebration is still a major event.

Looks like fun. I really miss living in a small town. I grew up in the tiny town of Santa Ynez when I was very young and then my parents moved to Green Mountain Falls (even smaller town), so I know what it's like having fun little events like that in small towns.

I can't really say I have any favorite events that go on in the relatively large city of Colorado Springs, as I don't often go to any. I do enjoy the sprawling suburbs here but it's just not the same as a small town. Hopefully I'll be able to get a homestead in the mountains in the near future, if I can ever afford it that is...

Also, Wagon Mound , New Mexico has a Bean Festival. I stumbled on it by accident. I know nothing of the history. The festival seemed to be well above what one would expect for a community of its size.

In an effort to keep humans safer, and animals less freaked, our local Volunteer Fire Department, holds a big party with awesome fireworks Hallowe'en evening. One big benefit compared to the Canada Day Fireworks, is that it's really dark by 6pm and the fireworks are at 8 pm, whereas you have to be a serious partier to attend Canada Day Fireworks that launch at 11pm (and the traffic afterwards is horrible!)

Many people come dressed up, the Hall serves hotdogs and donuts by donation to a charity, and they do a huge bonfire.

It's mostly locals, but people do come from the local city as well as the big city. Everybody's friendly, and you're not allowed to consume alcohol at an event aimed at children, (of all ages - even in their senior years...), so there's no worry about public drunkenness.

It's all good fun!

I don't participate or even attend any hometown events.

They have various parades and the Co. Dump is closed for those.

Our daughters does concerts and Big Buck/Game Dinner or what ever they are called.

The only thing we have done is to visit the farmers market once.

It's the christmas market in our community hall tomorrow. I don't get to many events, but I'll try and get along to this. There should be a few craftspeople selling gifts and home baked refreshments. I'm hoping that there will be some suitable tree decorations I can buy as presents. It's nice to support local producers if only in a small way.

I did enjoy the fun dog show earlier in the year - first time they've done one here and it had a good turnout from across the island. I took Dyson, our black labrador, for the morning and he won 'handsomest fellow'. He had a whale of a time - he should have won the 'waggiest tail' section too - he was robbed! (they were making sure more dogs got a prize I think) I do hope it becomes an annual event!

That sounds really yummy!

We have volunteers put together "Christmas Community Dinner" due to the large number of seniors in our local small city, who live alone. Since I have family, I have never attended, but I suspect many would consider it their favorite community event! My understanding is that they are filled to capacity every year. (Capacity is dependent on the Fire Department's seating capacity, which considering it's mostly seniors, that is something to take seriously in case there's some sort of emergency.)

I need to give my own town credit. The Kiwanis sponsor the Fall Festival. What makes this different is that one of the local banks donates over $30,000.00 and bands not at their peak are brought in free to the public. Think of groups on the level of Journey, Bellamy Brothers, etc…. Though not necessarily the two groups I mentioned.
