How far North can you enjoy the fireworks? At this timne of here it doesn't get dark till gone 10pm, which is a bit late for kiddies.

Where we live the municipality shoots them off at around 9:50.... So my kids got to stay up really late. But they enjoyed it!  The loss of sleep will probably catch up and they'll be cranky tonight around bedtime or sooner.

Yes - that's a problem on July 1st up here in Canada. I tend to skip the Canada Day fireworks, because my area did the wonderful thing of having our local volunteer firefighters hold a public party with fireworks for Hallowe'en - dark really early on Oct 31st.

Halloween is close to England's Bonfire night (Nov 5th) so tends to merge in a bit, not really a Scottish holiday though. That's a much better time of year to appreciate the fireworks in the dark.

Generally families keep their kids up late for the 4th fireworks, in the part of the US I live in (NW coastish) we generally light them off around 10pm at the big displays and at home people start around 9:45pm or so.

My parents grew up in Minnesota and it wasn’t uncommon for us to be at their farm over the 4th.  To visualize where their farm was, if you look at a map of the United States and see where Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota all meet, their farm was just east of that point (because it’s in Minnesota) and ever so slightly south.

Why the above statement:  from that you can get an approximate idea of the latitude.  

The sun did in fact set rather late, and the residual sky glow remained for quite a time after.  The last time I remember going to fireworks there they started at 11:30.  The sky was not fully dark yet.  And dawn was very early.

But where I live today, we can see the fireworks much earlier.  Ours started at 8:45.  Southern Illinois is a much different latitude than Minnesota.

Beautiful fireworks shots!  I had to vicariously enjoy.

With our current drought, Gallup again had to have a drone light show instead of fireworks. I do appreciate and respect that decision. I am a fireworks junkie, though. I think we have to come up with some August excuse for fireworks, though, so we can get our kicks during the more fire-friendly monsoon! Maybe Labor Day...
