My kids are grown, and never were much into helping with my projects.

Do you have any extra? They would only be expected to work for 6 or 8 hours a day. Canada has a great public school system. They would be well fed. After a few years, you can retrieve them and I guarantee that those who haven't run away will have become useful citizens. I can't actually buy them. It's more a value added deal.

Hmmmmm...that's a pretty stout guarantee. And quite subject to societal environment in which they find themselves. A "useful citizen" in the U.S. is one who dutifully pays their taxes to Uncle Sam, continually enriches through consumer spending the "other Uncle Sam" --Sam Walton, and spends every last penny on current and "long term" health care. Are your surrogate progeny prepared to fulfill these general duties?

Other people's kids are amazing source of free farm labour. I like the kind that go home after 6 hours.

Years ago I stayed with one of my teachers and his family for a semester when my family moved. Two hours a day of work. I think I got the better half of the deal. Also lived with a family commercial fishing for a summer while I was in high school. Living with another family for a while really gives a young person another window onto the world.

I think I've said before (like the last two times I was fooled on permies) that when our boys were teenagers I would have to leave home on April Fool's day....they were very good...or bad, depending on your point of view (and I still think gender plays a part)

Will, I'm not sure that those senators would be able to withstand the corporal punishment. Any that arrive out of shape, would be put on a suitable diet and given plenty of manual work. This should help with my work to feed ratio.
We probably have a blacksmith who can help out with leg irons.

I wonder if there are records regarding who was in favor of water boarding.😈

I was so busy this year that I totally missed April Fool's Day.

I once told a guy that his excavator had slid down the embankment and ended up in the river. Happy times

Another year, I called a bunch of relatives and informed them that my prodigal brother was now the father of three more children

I've always resisted the urge to call 911. In North America, that's an emergency only number. I assume that they would not appreciate my humor.

Nothing wrong with renting the neighbor's kids. Biggest things to argue: who has the tax deduction, who feeds them, and when can you send them back (for a full refund) by..? *edit, can't spell today...sigh
