Okay, well it's not great big yet, but it will be.

I know a lot of us lament the materialism of the holidays, but there is a certain sense of fun and frivolity to it all, and my philosophy is, if people really want to buy me something, well, more power to them. I thought we could all drop links and photos of things we're pining for, or buying for other loved ones here in this thread.

Eco gifts, permaculture gifts, homesteading gifts...whatever strikes your fancy. Post it here - and remember, it helps support Permies.com if you use an Amazon link - if anyone buys what you post, or anything else from the link that you use, Permies.com gets a little kickback, WOOT!

That's an easy one for me. I want soil blockers! Especially the ones that make 12 or 20 at a time. As well as the 4" blockers. Yeah, hundreds of dollars that I don't have at the moment - but they're on the list! I have the one that makes 3/4" blocks, and 4 2" blocks. But being able to make more blocks at one time would be wonderful.

So a few things we're kind of hoping for or buying around here:

Llama Llama Red Pajama

Source: Amazon.com

Apparently this book teaches that mommies aren't always able to be there right away, but that doesn't mean they don't love their little ones. As we struggle to balance working with raising our son and meeting the demands of a household, I feel this book is very appropriate.

Aromatherapy Diffuser - Professional Grade - Wood and Glass

Something for said mommy

The Ringer - The Original Stainless Steel Cast Iron Cleaner

Source: Amazon.com

I hear these are great for cleaning rough stuff off of cast iron pans - the outside of our main skillet could use some attention.

Carhartt Men's Quilt Lined Duck Bib Overalls

For my husband

Finger Paint - Eco Kids Non-Toxic Natural Paint

Source: Amazon.com

The reviews for these suck, but my kid eats way too much fingerpaint to put prettiness over quality of ingredients.

Something I've been pining after for my bookshelves for a long time now.

I am sorry that the images didn't work. Maybe someday I will figure out how to do it.

Here is the link to " The Story of the Permaculture Playing Cards"  I think these would be a great gift and an excellent way to show non-permaculture folks about permaculture.

We had a very Merry Permaculture Christmas.  I gave "green" money, cookies and "gifted" some new items that we could not use.  I recycled all gift bags, tissue paper and the metal can for the cookies.

What I received was some essential oils, a calender, and a fruit cake.  DH and I got a greenhouse!

I hope every one has a Merry Permaculture Christmas.

This year I grew and saved seed for Christmas Lima Beans (the actual variety name). I feel very slow for only realizing today that that should be a guide for when to pass the seeds out. There are family friends coming this evening who already expressed an interest when we harvested, so we've repurposed a jewelry box from on of the girls gifts.

What cool gifts Anne!!

I didn't get anything in the way of permaculture-y stuff But I did get a cheap set of noise cancelling headphones to help me work, and I think they'll do the job til I feel like forking over a bit more cash for something with an in-line mic.

I was really bothered by the amount of plastic packaging that came with my son's gifts - he got mostly wooden toys, but all packing in plastic and styrofoam, from my parents. Ugh. A bit off topic, but I'm wondering if there's somewhere you can send styrofoam packing materials to be reused? Must research this later.

A lot of folks probably already know about Plantable Seed Paper.  This is new to me.  This is a great idea for gift tags, especially this time of year.

Here are instructions to make the seed paper:

@Anne Miller:  I followed the link, but my problem with using the "gift tag" idea is that it's too small for me to actually feel I'm giving something useful. I thought about the seed idea and my friends for a few days and wondered if it took some scraps of organic sacking, chopped and soaked it, could I actually make my friends a seed pad they could put in a pot on top of some decent dirt and let the seeds germinate? This is what happened so far:
Seed-pad-step-1.JPG
[Thumbnail for Seed-pad-step-1.JPG]
You can easily see the 3 dwarf pink pea seeds and the 3 red Swiss Chard seeds. You may be able to see some lettuce seeds.
Seed-pad-step-2.JPG

After I spread the seeds, I covered them with a second layer of fiber and put the results on a screen. I hope the material will dry before the seeds germinate! The circles are ~8" - the size to fit on in a pot on the deck.
