Best Permaculture Book for people on an acre or more

Maybe for PDC we should divide it into "online PDC" and "in-person PDC"

How about something along the lines of:

"Most Effective Permaculture Technique to... X"

Where "X" would be the end goal desired, such as, "improved soil", "tastiest vegetable", "reduce fuel use", "sequest carbon", etc.
Perhaps, it would end up being a ranking of the SKIP Badges, PEP Badges, and BB's for achieving a particular goal.

How about best fiction book that introduces people to permaculture

A question/suggesting for a "Best of...." or "Top 5...." type of thread.

Perhaps it's just me, but it seems that so many who wish to get into alternative energy (solar, wind, etc.) struggle mightily with transitioning away from a "just flip the switch" conceptualization of electrical energy (that typifies life connected to the power grid) to the nuances of small-scale electrical energy production, storage, and use.  In discussions with so many who lead more conventional lifestyles, it seems that the most foreign and frightening issues with this type of energy are the quantitative nature of how much and when the power is being produced and how best to guarantee adequate storage.

If one were to focus down just to battery storage, I find the array of battery types and how they are to be maintained, charged, and discharged into loads to be quite bewildering.  So I'm wondering if others would want to see "Best of..." or "Top 5..."  --- "Battery information web/demonstration sites for off-grid homesteads".  Does the fact that Permies.com already have a solar forum negate this need?  Is focusing on batteries going to 'small' when perhaps what should be considered are "Best of..."  "Renewable energy sites for homesteads"?

I hope I am interpreting this call for polls in the correct manner....please disregard/delete if it is an incorrect entry for this thread.

I threw all my apples and thumbs at this answer, albeit temporarily, just so I can toss my arms in the air for a brief moment and wave them around and make a point by saying...

I've been acquainted with the word "permaculture" for 7 - 10 years now, and only now am I realizing that I can only think of a small handful of demonstration sites.

Am I an outlier in my ignorance?  I bet I'm not.  If it turns out that I'm not an outlier, and that famous, beautiful, and accessible sites are rare or obscure, then I think it speaks volumes about the lack of familiarity with permaculture in mainstream society.  People need to be able to see it, and point to it, and taste it.  Not just in their minds, and not just in their own neighborhoods and backyards, but like "Hey honey, lets hop in the car and go visit this demonstration site."  It should be as accessible as a weekend trip to the beach, or mountains, or nearest theme-park, etc., and just as rewarding.

I'd very much be interested in an informal study with the X axis being
"Years you've been acquainted with permaculture"

and the Y axis being
"Number of permaculture demonstration sites you can name off the top of your head in a minute without cheating and looking them up"
Or...
"Number of demonstrations sites you've visited."
"Number of demonstration sites you could feasibly reach in a weekend by normal travel method."

I nearly made a new thread on this and then remembered this poll.
I only read 'the one straw revolution' a couple years ago, and I was surprised how much it changed my thinking.  I used to think that science would solve everything and by analysing and experimenting humans will find better ways.  Now I really believe that nature knows best and am trying to fight her less.  If I had read this earlier, I might be further on my journey.  I think I was put off reading it because I thought I wanted tools, when what I actually wanted was direction. I'm thinking can we make a top ten reading books for young people who may be interested in Permaculture to help their progress?
So my suggestion is "best permaculture book for people new to the subject" (lets not be ageist here!)
