Field & Forest Products

Summary

To provide superior mushrooms spawn, cultivation supplies, expertise, and education to inspire people to grow mushrooms either at home or commercially using environmentally and economically sustainable practices.

When we started Field and Forest Products, we were committed to raising ecological awareness about our woodlands while improving timber quality by promoting timber stand improvement practices to generate the beginnings of a mushroom farm. Nearly 40 years later, we have the same goal, but along with our customers, we continue to look at new possibilities in the world of mushroom cultivation and fungal interactions that are compatible with overall sustainability and renewability within the environment around each of us.

I give this mushroom provider 8 out of 10 acorns.

Field and Forest Products is a provider of all things mushroom with a great variety on hand. They have all sorts of different mushroom spawn mediums including grain, plugs, and many others. They have prompt shipping and the spawn received has been well inoculated. At times, their site can be a little tedious compared to their competitors but only enough to give it a brief mention. Shipping has been prompt and their educational information on different mushrooms had good depth to it.

I would use this mushroom provider again.

2/28/25 update - I placed an order for 5lb bag of spawn for Wood Blewit a few days ago and it arrived today. The box came with the spawn as well as a few paper handouts with instructions and recommendations for best care/usage of the spawn. The bag came well inoculated and in one piece so props to the company for their packaging. No complaints!

I give this mushroom provider 10 out of 10 acorns.  They provide valuable information about growing conditions and how to have success with their fungi.  Their selection is 5x larger than most people need - who knew there were so many varieties of shiitake?

Field and Forest gets 10 out of 10 acorns from me!

Years ago I started my own log-grown mushroom collection using their plug spawn, as well as sawdust spawn.  I ended up experimenting with 6 different strains of Shiitake, and a couple of strains of Oyster.  I inoculated over 500 logs for personal use, and also began teaching workshops on the process.  The customer service was always very responsive, and I always received a quality product within a timely manner, which was important when organizing the workshops in Hawaii.

The website is clear, informative, and enjoyable to browse.  There are plenty of options for mushroom strains, as well as pretty much everything else needed to get into production, including instruction sheets and tutorials, tools such as drill bits and angle grinder adapters, bulk wax, and much more.

I really wish I had a supplier like this in Poland.
