Also, does anyone have any experience trying to grow ramps in the PNW? The foresty bit of my land has maple, fir, and red alder as canopy, with lots of sword and bracken fern in the herbaceous layer, and is probably 98+% shaded for most of any day of the year.
the firs could give you trouble, as could the ferns. firs generally have a lot of shallow roots that will compete with the ramps. and the ferns occupy the same vertical layer as the ramps, though they might get up before the bracken.
I've grown a limited amount of ramps, and I'm planning more in the future. it's certainly doable, but our precipitation patterns really aren't ideal for this particular plant. so I think we'll have to temper our expectations somewhat in this part of the world. your brief description of your site does sound promising, it's just likely that you'll have to do a bit of weeding for a while and pick your spots carefully.
