What could go wrong?

Cronyism could turn corporate interest into national interest worth kinetic action to defend/advance.

Plus it increases global trade , escalating dependence on global corporations and global supply chains.

Plus it puts oceans and shorelines at risk in event of accident or attack.

There are sinpmer better solutions, but alas, harder for cronies to monetize.

Sounds like a hybrid of something a George Orwell novel and communist China propaganda would say.

Reminds me of the 'Atoms for Peace' speech made by Dwight Eisenhower. Yep, they helped fund the Iran, Pakistan and Israel nuclear programs ... that's worked out well!

Unknown consequences, send it to Rand for deep thought.

Full disclosure: I didn't click the link and read the article.

But I think using feel good words like "freedom" for some sort of product, especially gas, is unsavory. Reminds me of an oil companies'/gas stations tv commercial that I used to see when I had a tv. It had a catchy jingle, and told viewers to "get a full tank of freedom".

Good thoughts.

But the closeness of methodology to the "Victory Garden" idea rubs me the wrong way.

Ah yes, I recall when America started promoting "freedom fries" after France snubbed us for some reason, probably not offering enough troops to attack Iraq or something.

The only "freedom gas" I have is a few hours after I eat too much Taco Bell, produced by my "freedom ass".

I don't recall the exact slight from France, but I was surprised by the dislike many Americans had for France.  I saw the dislike for France before the Freedom Fries incident, but it really ratcheted up at that point.

I never understood it, though I suspect it stems from France getting steamrolled by Germany.  Most of the people I talked to didn't know that France was America's best ally when they fought the war of independence from the English.  I'm not a historian, but I don't know if America would have succeeded in seceding without the help of France.

It looks like the name is more targeted at Europeans who would rather not be held over a barrel (haha) by Russia for their natural gas. That being said, the DOE should get a new ad agency.
