Tiny pies

Because we have a penchant for pie here at Permies, I thought I would share what's been going on in my home today. My wife is off this week for Christmas, and her mom is here with us visiting. She spent the day baking, first some cookies then she made tiny pies. They're called pecan tassies, and I had to look that up in the dictionary. It appears that tassie is scottish and originally means a cup, but has been adopted to mean other things, including a decorative ring or plug on the end of a pen, and a small tart or miniature pie. Who knew!!

What a great idea! I love pecan pie but a whole pie is too much. This would be a good way to make smaller amounts.

I used to bake a lot of Christmas cookies and sell them at my Mom's work.  If you plan on doing nut tassies every year, this tool is well worth the investment.  They probably wouldn't be hard to make, either, if you have the tools/ skills.  (Another great thing to do is bake off the shells and add no-bake cheesecake filling and a maraschino cherry or a little glob of fruit jam)

Edit: Holy crap is the tool expensive on Amazon.  It's only $8 direct from Pampered Chef.  I got mine as a gift so didn't know how much it cost (I don't go to the parties).

I can really identify with people who must eat the whole pie when the opportunity arises!

Yeah! Man I could make those on the lathe all day! I bet it could be very profitable at about $5 each- Scrap hardwood and maybe 10 minutes total if done in batches. Anyone wanna order 100? 😁

Ha!  I was wondering how many of those tiny pies I could fit in my mouth!  😋

Seriously though, they would be good to serve at parties/get togethers (especially still warm) - finger food.
