Why thanks, Susan! My boy has grown up a bit of a city kid and has no memory of when I used to have a real veggie garden, but is really grooving on the farming stuff.

Ironically enough, my daughter, who is 7 years older than her brother, learned to eat green beans from playing in pole bean teepees, had summer sunflower houses, ate so many cherries from our trees that she had tummy trouble (repeatedly ) and thought that only men ever shaved . She just generally grew up a bit more hippie and rural and yet she turned into a total city girl.

Do your girls still love flowers? I'll never forget the time I was deadheading the roses when my daughter was playing in the wading pool. I sprinkled all the pink and red rose petals in the water for her and she was in heaven! As the sun heated the water and the petals the aroma was breathtakingly luscious! To this day, one of her favorite scents is rose water.

I grew up in the city and was all too aware that whether men shaved or not women DID.
I wanted then and still want to be a rural hippie when I grow up.
One daughter grows a lot more vegetables and fruit than I do but it's only a matter of time until I'm also eating a lot more of my own food. I just planted two beautiful chards from a friend today! Blueberries, strawberries and a lime tree are next on the list, and I have seeds that I need to plant yesterday.

Though you'll likely enjoy it more if you just skim past all the monocrops, the excessive farm equipment, and stuff that makes a permie cringe. Just enjoy it for the fun parody that it is, and for youth actually being excited and having fun with farming (of any kind).

My favorite hugelkultur moment at the Dayton workshop was when a young man (whippersnapper is what my dad would have called him) turned on Bob Marley for us to plant to.

So proud of my oldest daughter....she was cleaning some goat bedding out of a cage the other day as she wanted the cage to move some chickens...and found the the bedding had maggots in it...and promptly spread it out on the ground and plopped her cage full of farrow quail on top of the maggots...which they properly and quickly processed into a small quantity of high quality compost...lol.

She is mad because I have not had the $$$ to buy her a couple hundred feet of poultry netting...she bugs me to build her more chicken houses...

she steals the lumber off my sawmill to build dovecotes...

she agrees that my goats are cuter than kittens...but maintains that her pigeons are cuter than my goats.. (fat chance..NOTHING is cuter than my goats.)

lol enjoyed the video....this one was created back in May by some boys a couple of hours down the highway from me (Sussex New Brunswick is known as a farming/dairy community....thus the huge concrete cows in the video). As Jocelyn said, some of this video makes me cringe (large dairy operation) but I got the local references and laughed my head off the first time I saw it

Oh, that one is good too! (I almost didn't get that you were talking about another YouTube--I'm a bit slow this morning--so in my quote I made it a YouTube embed.) These boys are a bit more, um, energetic, than those Kansas lads.

Another farm and farmer parody song. Again big ag stuff, but pretty well done even so.

Goats are very cute, but cuteness is a thing of taste.
