Should I keep Meat Birds and Mini Goats together?

Hi Permies!

I would absolutely adore some feedback from you!

I would like to keep my meat birds ( Mitral Gris ) in the same enclosure as two young mini goats. I'm a little worried about the chickens being stepped on my the goats and getting injured and keeping the goats out of the chicken feed. There would be 60 chickens and 2 mini goats in a 1/2 acre. The mini goats would also be moved to other areas and would only me there during the day.

Do you have any concerns, comments, or recommendations?

I had a neighbor who let her chickens free range in and out of the goat enclosure. They never got stepped on and seemed to get along fine. The chickens were fed outside the goats' fence.

Could you fence the chicken feed area so only chickens can get through?

so here are some of my thoughts

- I imagine the goats would not be eating any of the grass/clovers if the chickens had pooped on them before. I can picture goats turning their noses up:) Any chance the goats can go in before the chickens go into the paddock. That way they can get the clean grass/forage before the chickens had gotten into them? Being that the goats are bigger the chickens would naturally follow them (i would guess based off of my joel salatin readings...)
- I see no issue with the chickens getting stepped on. Have you tried to step on a chicken? haha
- It seems essential, to keep the chicken feed area, goat free.
- You might need to have separate water for the goats. I am used to chickens getting into everything.
- I imagine if you are going to feed the goats hay in with the chickens the chickens would roost in the hay feeder. Preventing the goats from eating the hay.
- The chickens will most likely keep the goat parasites in that paddock at bay which would be great :)

I am not sure what your system is. If you could let the goats into the new paddock for about 2 weeks or less(depending on available forage). Than let the chickens into it while you let the goats into a new paddock. Chickens can than scratch the goat poop up and distribute it.

They are the cutest goats!

We keep about 30 laying hens with our 6 goats, 2 are full size and the others are kids ranging in age from 1-3 months. We have yet to lose a chicken or goat :)  We did have to make the door/entrance to the chicken coop smaller to keep the goats out of the feed. Other than that they are good.
