Hi All;  With Covid spreading across the US and getting worse. I have not been going back to Washington to go to work.
I have been happily completing projects at home. Some have waited years for me to find the time.
I recently finished up with firewood and now I've moved on to a new project.
I buy my grain for the pigs #2500 at a time.  Two large sacks each on their own pallet.
I have a nice covered shed. Plenty of room for two pallets.  Trouble is it's 60 yards away from the  pig pen.
Back up the truck, fill a dozen sacks with grain. drive truck over unload and repeat... gets old really fast.
Several years back I started putting one pallet in the shed and the other out in the field next to the pig pen.
Tarps and metal roofing keep most of the rain off and keeps the deer away. Still a pain to uncover, the rain gets in somehow anyway.
But better than double packing sacks of grain.
Luckily it doesn't rain much in the summer, but then come fall I'm back moving grain from the far off shed again.
I finally have the time and thanks to my truckload of larch tops I have posts and beams  to build a dedicated shed right where I need it.
It's been too hot out to work during the afternoons. So I start early and get as much done as I can before the heat goes up.
Hopefully there will be a roof before the summer thunderstorms start up.

What are you planning for the floor to keep rodents out?

We have similar issues with chicken feed but luckily we scored a big stack of "used twice" square buckets with lids. I find them easier to deal with than sacks for moving feed.

Hi Jay;
Eventually, I will pour concrete.    No telling how far in the future that might be.
Until then it will be dirt and the grain will sit up on pallets. Just having a roof over it will keep me smiling for a few seasons.
Pigs eat a lot. Some years every bit of that #2500 is eaten by fall. Other years I have a couple hundred pounds left over.
The mice have never been a problem.
We do have field cats (similar to barn cats) as well as numerous other predators including the piggy's, looking to eat a nice fat mouse. I suspect the mice are nervous around here!

Started extra early today.  It is going into the 90's today.

OK I know all you Permies who live where it really is hot and humid are rolling your eyes... that's not Hot!
But hey it has been in the 40's every morning and 70's in the day until recently.
Good news is, with the dew this morning humidity was all the way up to 68% .... currently 58% and will be 40% something or less by this afternoon....(EDIT)  It's late afternoon 27%

This morning I successfully got tar paper up on rafters... without putting a foot or hand thru it!
I got the 1 x 4 stringers up and I started getting the metal up!
No fancy matching metal for the piggys,  a few shades of green and soon a little galvanized, all  used pieces laying about.
But Hey , let it rain if it want's too!  There is already enough roof to keep it dry!

Just about finished.  Just some sealing to do on the wood, a piece of fencing to block the front...and its done!
Only been, at least five years or so that I have been wanting this!

Looks good, Thomas! Plus now you also have another roof to collect rainwater off of if you wanted to.

That's a very nice use for firewood! Wonder what else you have cooking in your brain as the pile gets virtually smaller?

Life just hasn't been the same since the volcano erupted and now the air is full of tiny ads.
