A floor channel stub of carbon steel is expected to last several seasons in a lightly used Batch. In a heavy use situation the cobra hood will degrade in a few months. The entire stub (but not the tube) will need replaced every season, if not twice a season. For those folks with welding / metal working ability, it is an hours work to cut off the old stub and weld on a new one. For those without that ability removal of the air channel is required, as well as hiring a welder to fabricate a new cobra stub.

I’ve been building and using Rocket Mass Heaters since 2013. Finding products for any RMH build can be challenging. Nice innovating! Is there a "stop" in the receiving sleeve or is it the bolts that grip and suspend the stub to keep it from bottoming out in the horizontal portion?  

Hi Matt;
Yes, there are protrusions that stop the stub from going any deeper.
The bolts I am not sure are even needed.  I'll install one in my studio batch and experiment with the bolts loose.
I'll also be releasing a Quick change using a 6" carbon steel Walker style stub.

Exciting stuff! This will make secondary air piping much more available to me in the next couple of years when I build a closed system batch box. And save me the awkward exchange with any local welder who'd likely say "you want me to do what now?"

The real answer about stubs, is to spring for the RA330.  
Extreme long life , possibly a lifetime  one shot deal.
The RA330 has been made since the 1950's.  It is a proven product.
We can't say it will last a life time in a batch... yet, but our children will after we are gone and it is still there working!
