Hi Paul, I am a novice on all of this, I've just "arrived" at this world called Permaculture.

I also just have found this opportunity you are bringing to us here, but I still have some questions about the 4 DVDs, they are:

1. Are the video/audio quality of the streaming version videos the same or as good as the DVDs version?

2. Is it possible to download to my PC these videos from the streaming version from YouTube?
(Sorry, I still don't have an YouTube account and don't know how does this will work, but I usually copy some free YouTube videos with no problem).

3. If I decide to buy the 4 DVDs, is it possible to you to declare them at a lower value on the Customs Declaration over the package?
I ask about this issue because I live in Brazil, and here the Customs usually charge us with so many taxes and fees that these DVDs will probably cost twice the value for me, before I can get them.

Thanks a lot and congratulations for your work!
Greetings from southern Brazil,
João

I think I will be connecting people to the streaming version tomorrow.

Thanks -- I received my notification email with the four Youtube links. Three worked as expected, but I'm unable to view "Hot Rocket". I get streaming error with a try later prompt. Is anyone else seeing the same error on this vid?

TIA,
Dirk

Are you still getting that problem? (I guess I am hoping for the age old "do nothing and maybe the problem will fix itself")

My impression is that the streaming quality is higher.

It is streaming. Not downloading.

I cannot. They are set up with a fulfillment service that manages everything. I have zero control over that part.

- Okay, but as streaming, can I watch the videos as many times as needed to understand or just one time?

- If there are no difference between the DVDs' video content and the Streaming version, I probably will choose/acquire this second option. Or are there some "EXTRAs" in the DVDs?

I checked. It showed your account had access. So I removed your access and added it again. Is it working now?

There are no extras. The content is the same.

Still a nogo. I've tried the obvious stuff (e.g. different browsers all current release, cleared cache, even tried viewing on mobile devices). I can scrub using the Youtube controls and see the scrubbing thumbnails if I turn off autoplay and keep it from erroring out, but it won't play. The state is also saved at my account level so testing on alternate devices initializes with previous failed state. I googled in an attempt to clear this video "session" state following me around and am not seeing anything helpful.

Just to be clear: you can see the other three videos just fine, right? It is only hot rocket that is giving your problems, right?

I see your account info in the first video and in "Hot Rocket". Identical in both.

Can you create a brand new youtube account and we can try that? It seems that youtube has a bug and creating a new youtube account appears to fix the bug.

For those of you that have purchased the 4-dvd set after the kickstarter, please comment here when you receive it and tell us what the quality is like.

paul wheaton wrote:The people that paid for the kickstarter got the 4 dvd set for $100 including shipping. Unless they were outside the US and then it was $120. So the 4-dvd set it now set up for sale where you have to pay your own shipping. And so far it seems like shipping is super slow unless you part with the bigger money.

I'm also having a hard time understanding some of the stuff here, so right now this is experimental. I would like to get one or more people to buy the DVD set through this link and report back how it went. Click here.

In other news, later today I will be setting folks up with the streaming option. That was sold in the kickstarter for $90. If folks send me $99 via paypal (paul at richsoil.com) and provide me with your youtube ID (which is the same as your gmail address for a lot of folks) then I will test that path too.

Paul - I used the "little" link and the process went smoothly.
Will let you know when I get the DVD's.

For those of you that are buying the streaming option:

A: it seems that 2 out of 3 have no problem
B: it seems that out of those that have problems, we can come up with a fix for most.
C: don't buy the streaming option until we get a 100% solution

We're trying to figure things out in this thread: https://permies.com/t/27045

I just deleted a bunch of snotty comments from youtube. In response to a portion of those comments I want to make it clear to folks thinking of purchasing this stuff the exact thing that is in the video, and I think has been mentioned many times in this thread: I am not a videographer. In fact, Bart has told me I don't get to hold the camera anymore for any of the future DVD projects. I did not put a microphone on ernie or erica. I just did the point-the-camera thing which did happen to have a fancy directional mic on it. And you can hear people at the workshop talking while the instructor is talking.

The bottom line is that we took a fancy-pants camera, took video of workshop because people asked for it. And it turns out that more people wanted it than we thought.

When we had so many sales of the video, we tried to add a little to it to bump up the value a bit and earn the extra income. Bart begged us to use better equipment and now I understand why.

If your expectation is anything above "a crappy video of a workshop" then you will probably be disappointed.

On the bright side, I think Bart did an amazing job fixing my errors. Plus he added in some excellent 3-D animations showing how a lot of this stuff works.

With a real videographer and the idea that a proper DVD would be made, the workshop attendees would take a backseat to the camera. And the presenters would wear a mic and be asked to say everything twice. And there would be "B-roll" and more than one microphone "just in case".

I was allowed to video provided that I stayed the hell out of the way.

So I moved the streaming stuff from youtube to vimeo. So far I have heard back from two people that it worked flawlessly the first try. If anybody else wants to send $99 via paypal to paul at richsoil.com along with a note about your user account number at vimeo, I'll get you connected with streaming.

We are currently seeing 100% success rate at vimeo. We have about a dozen people set up there now. It sounds rock solid.

I think where the mission was to mash a workshop into DVD format, with the first thought being that it would be for about 20 people - I think what we've managed to come up with is freaky excellent. Or maybe that is just by massive arrogance speaking. So I would very much like to hear from folks what they think of the videos.

Next up: I would have thought that we would have heard from heaps of people about having received the physical DVDs. Still nothing? Did you get a tracker? I know that I got my DVDs a while ago. And I know that jocelyn got a notice from the DVD people that hers were getting shipped aug 6! I checked in with Bart and it sounds like there was a lot of wonky stuff about paying for stuff from canada that took a long time to sort out. I guess next time we'll be better prepared for that sort of wonkiness.

I don't think I did. I searched my email history, but all I found were responses from the kickstarter, but nothing from the shipper. I filled out the survey when it was sent, too... hrm.

I got my DVDs today!!

I got an alert that mine would be shipped on Aug 6th and the arrived in the mail today. I am sure my super fast delivery is due to the fact the company that made the DVDs is only a couple hours away from my farm.

Are orders still being taken, even though the kickstarter is over? I have to say, it wasn't really on my radar when I joined this site.

If orders ARE still being taken, is there a running tally? I mean in terms of achieving the stretch goals. It seems a shame to shut it down being so close, just because the kickstarter event has ended.

I seem to recall Paul saying that the DVDs would only be available to kickstarter contributors.

Any insight here?
