Hi,

Thank you so much for welcoming me to the forum.
I'm not sure yet how to maneuver through everything (soooo much information to sift through) as of yet but I am excited to get started.
What brought me to you was a statement I read about willed land.  I would love to learn more about this.
Not that I am one for handouts (I pride myself on working hard for what I earn) but they the market has blown up in the PNW and being 55 living paycheck to paycheck...
well lets just say I'm praying for a small or big miracle.
Can anyone tell me more about "willed land" ?

Thank you!!!

Lisa, you've come to the right place!

I'd suggest that you start by reading this thread, All about SKIP, PEP, Badges, BBs and More! SKIP stands for "SKills to Inherit Property" and it's something we're really excited about here at Permies. That thread will explain the program and how to get started. It's free, and perfect for people who love to learn new skills.

For getting around the forums (Permies is huge), I usually hit the All Forums button at the bottom of the left-hand sidebar. There, you'll find all the different forums we have by topic.

Welcome to Permies!

All about SKIP, PEP, Badges, BB's and More! is the thread you are looking for. Paul just finished up his succesfull Kickstarter campaign for his new book. You can preorder the book here. But you don't have to wait to start working on badge bits. All that is explained in the first link above.

Good luck!!!

Hi! Found my way here in 2018.  There is a huge amount of information here, whether you're dipping your toe into permaculture for the first time or jumping into SKIP to possibly inherit land. I am a toddler in this world, but I welcome you and encourage you to dive in!

Hello!

What brought me to you was a statement I read about willed land.  I would love to learn more about this.

As I understand, there's some kind of certification that you are a worthy homesteader with the SKIP program. If you pass it, you can proudly show everyone who cares how well you are able to manage any property. Even if you are never offered a land, you will have the skills to manage it, so you are one step closer to success.
Then, Paul Wheaton has some spare land he is renting for cheap to those that are worthy, this is, people who are assets to the land. I don't know if he actually includes these people into his will.

I am not sure if the 'inherit' thing has ever occurred. Nonetheless, you will find here pretty much everything you need to know to homesteading and permaculture, which is a great way to thrive while caring for the planet.

Actually, what the SKIP program is aiming to do, is to pair land owners with those who would be good fits for inheriting their land. And there are a lot of land owners who are interested in doing this! And they are coming forward and contacting Permies about it. The merit badge system (PEP) is the means of learning and documenting basic permaculture skills to help those land owners find good fits to inherit their land.

But I have to say that a lot of us participate in PEP, not in hopes of inheriting land, but because it's an excellent learning tool. For example, I already have land, so I am interested in learning practical permaculture in order to be a better steward of what I do have. Plus, it's fun!
