Hello,

I am looking for all opportunities to live, grow plants, and cooperate with like-minded people in the next phase of my life. Maybe this could take the form of joining an intentional community.

I have 4 years of experience working on farms. I have also done volunteer work in earthen building and other permie stuff. I am 26 years old, politically leftist, and my other interests include art.

Growing seeds, breeding crops, and planting trees are my primary interests, and I would like to start teaching others about these practices while I continue to learn. All of these goals would be made easier by having secure land access over a long period of time, and I would be happy to join an already-existing effort.

Currently living in New Jersey, I am growing vegetables, trees, and seeds on a friend's property, but my land access here is tenuous. They might sell the property. The next owner might mow down my saplings, for all I know.

Nothing is really tying me to this area-- On one hand I would prefer to be in the mid-atlantic area because it's where I'm from, and I have the most knowledge of this ecology-- but I am ready to relocate anywhere if I can find a real suitable long-term prospect.

Please reach out!
Thanks for reading.

Janice, welcome to the forum!

I saw you have not had any replies so I thought this might help:

I had a friend that wanted to do what you are expressing.  She got a job at the local nursery.

She later told me that was the best thing she had ever done because she earned money to do what she loved and learned so much, too.

Janice, How long of an arrangement are you looking for? We have a small 60 acre property on the upper South Umpqua in Oregon called Andraieff Meadows. It was usda region 6s highest priority to purchase under the land and wildlife conservation fund fy2008. It is an extremely biologically diverse property. It is better managed under private ownership though because it is a "sensitive" area. Consequently we are particular about what takes place there. For the last 1&1/2 years we had another couple with 4 children living on the property under a "farming lease type agreement" growing veggies ,herbs and fruit trees on an acre or two . Unfortunately they were not able to fulfill their part of our agreement. So I am currently talking to two other parties about possible arrangements. The property is off grid. I presently have some solar. And a septic. A green house . Three tiny house or rv type residence's. A large fenced garden. Great potential for hydro power also. A sawmill and some some timber. The goal is to be as self sustaining as possible. There is about a mile of river frontage, an island ,two creeks,a large pond, and a great spring.I have been considering different long term arrangements like a trust or foundation to protect the land longer term but not really set on anything yet.my wife and I are 65-70 with a large family that visits on occasion. If this interests you feel free to contact me.  Thanks

Hi Janice,
Like Dan and Janet, I have an off-grid property in Oregon. I know a bit about the area they are in and it is an amazingly beautiful part of the world. And with so much accessible water, sounds amazing.
My property is outside of the town of Ashland, right on the California border. I've been working on creating infrastructure over the past several years with hopes of building space for community. Still so much to do. The property is at about 4000' and heavily forested. If you're interested in discussing it more, please reach out via PM. Good luck with your search.

Hi Janice
It sounds like you have been doing the hard work but on someone else's property. Sorry that your friends are selling their land. If you are ready to relocate, maybe you can think about joining me in West Africa on 4 acres of land (forest).

Feel free to reach out for a chat.

Hi Janice, are you still looking for a spot? I like what you wrote. I started a forest farm last December and am living here with my partner and a friend, still working on forming the nucleus of an intentional community, after some zoning problems squashed our first attempt. Here is a link about my vision for the community. It's long, but skimmable.
