I often watch Li ziqi with my two young kids. She's an extremely famous Chinese youtuber who showcases a lot of traditional Chinese cuisine in the context of making it yourself on a homestead or rural village.

My son wanted to keep in touch with a friend who's moved away and suggested we make videos like Li ziqi.

I thought it was an awesome idea and a great chance for him to learn some skills (videography) in the process. Plus I'll probably get a few more cooking tasks done than I would have otherwise.

We're starting with Kumquat marmalade. My son's behind the camera, so I might be comfortable sharing publicly if we edit carefully.

Anyone else making film with kids?

My kids want to make videos but I said they have to have a plan and at least an outline, if not a script, before I'll let them post anything because I want them to have a motivation besides "I wanna be a YouTube star!" So their videos have not progressed beyond random talking, singing, and dancing as they wander around the house and yard with a camera. So they won't be posting anything at this time. They do want to join in when I make my videos and I occasionally let them but my videos are just Sunday school lessons for kids who can't come to our church for health reasons and I'm not trying to grow an audience.

Your son's idea to use videos to stay in touch with a friend sounds great!
