A neighbor is clearing out her house before moving, she called us to ask if we wanted anything. My initial reaction was no... we still have so much stuff, but my wife suggested that I might find some "lumber". It's a good point, people often don't realize how valuable the
wood in some of their furniture is. So we went over and had a look.
The majority of the stuff was particle board junk. We found two pieces worth taking. One was junk, but useful junk for us that cleared some stuff off the floor.
The second piece was this:
It's an interesting piece. It's pretty old and beat-up. It's very lightweight which makes me think it's probably mostly cedar. Certainly the shelves. The front panels are probably a very thin veneer of something very cool looking. I will probably cut into it a little to confirm whether it's a veneer or not.
I doubt I will use it as is, because I do not need such a piece of furniture. Though the top half is easily removed, and a simple chest of drawers might be useful.
At worst - I got some free lumber.
Once I decide what I'm going to do with it I will post here. If you have any clever ideas, feel free to share!
