At last!  I've dreamed of offering community access work shops for years.  By work shop, I don't mean classes (though there will be those as well), I mean physical workspace with tools and supplies and equipment.

Yesterday, I scored a large Skutt kiln - the hardest piece to find within my paltry budget.  This thing is a steal.  A steal.  I am beyond grateful.  I don't even know if it's gas or electric.  It doesn't matter because either one can work here.  I can pick up work tables for cheap at the local restaurant supply (used).  I'll be offering space for handbuilt pots and tiles until we can get wheels.  Out back, I'll have space for a pit kiln and I'm hoping we can work on eventually building an anagama.

I've got what I need (equipment-wise) for a community access wood working shop as well.  I was gifted with some beautiful tools to get started and I'll no doubt keep collecting.

I would love to further engage the community to create a resource centre for building materials, tools, and equipment.  Mostly to lend/borrow, but I can envision rent/sale scenarios, too.

Anyway, I am really chuffed about it and wanted to share somewhere I felt others would understand.

Hope you're having a great day, folks.

I would like to do something like this for my community. You are going to build great things for the people living around you--physical things and socially as well! Best wishes and may your efforts yield 100-fold!

Thanks Rachel!  I sure hope that the community will participate.

That's wonderful Nissa!  I've thought about a similar thing for fiber arts, wood working, food preservation and animal butchery.  Why can't we all share a cider press, chicken plucker, shaving horse and spinning wheel?

Nissa, that is a great idea.

Here in the USA, there is something similar to your concept.

You might be able to get some ideas from these threads:
