I have bought some ball jars recently at a yard sale but haven’t been able to find any lids or rings. They are smaller than the regular sized lids. About 1 3/4 inches. The boxes show 405-58-2. In the picture the lid and ring is regular size.

Hi Gregory! Welcome to permies!!

Interesting! I have spice bottles that size, the threads don't look like canning jar threads though.
Wonder what you have?
I look forward to answers... Got me curious too!

They look like commercial jam jars. Ball does stamp their logo on all their industrial custom jars as well as their home canning jars, and they sell a wide selection of them that we home canners don't generally see. You could maybe find out how to acquire lids but probably not worth it.

If you can’t get lids from Ball, see if you can find an end user such as a canning plant.  I bet they would give you a few dozen lids for free. Of course, the problem might be if those lids require special handling during the canning process.

You might check https://www.fillmorecontainer.com/  if you haven't, they carry a lot of odd things. and they are nice folks, you can drop them an email if you don't see it on their site, they might know where to get lids.

And if you can't find any, you might look at corks that size. Can't can with them, but would make a nice matched size storage set for spices etc.

Try lookng for 'narrow mouth canning lids'.
I used them years ago for a few things. Probably obsolete now.

I've looked online and can't find anything...it was back in the seventies and easy to find cannng supplies off the shelf.
We were given odds and ends by our grandmas and moms so I don't remember exact origins?

Those bottles remind me of the jar of maraschino cherries that I have had unopened for about 20 years.

I hope you will find lids that work.

Thank you for your helpful suggestions. I guess I know why I got such a great deal on them.🫣
I will continue to look for lids but they will likely be prohibitively expensive for the amount of food they may store. My initial thought was the are the perfect size for a single serving.

If you strike out on canning lids, some bee equipment suppliers sell regular metal lids in a variety of sizes. Listed in metric and I have no idea if you measure the inside or outside... 43 mm are only 22 cents each. Shipping will be outrageous of course but if you know a beekeeper they might let you piggyback on an order.

You may have some luck with specialty bottle. com, or fillmore as suggested above.  There might be other companies to be found.  People who supply manufacturers.  You can buy lids separate from jars.  Hopefully the minimum purchase isn’t a pallet load of lids!

I have had good luck getting lids to fit various glass bottles and jars.

There are lots of sizes, and different kinds of threads.  Your jar looks like threaded, not lug closure.

Get your exact measurements ready millimeter s and inches, outside diameter of the jar top, and then try to talk to a real person, who will often send you a free sample, to be sure you have the right size.

Good luck!  Last time I needed to do this was about 10 years ago.  We all know how much has changed!

Gregory, do you still have these? Where are you located? I bought some “small mouth” ball jars at an antique store the other day and they have shorter threads than the current regular mouth jars and are not as wide. I am thinking they are for your jars! I am in Central MO, Columbia area.

93 S jars?  Also possibly known as GEM jars.
