THE CAR: 2001 Lexus GS 300

You'd think it would be easy. Go-to Chilton's or Hayne's site and look it up. Right? But nooooo....

I have looked up the vin# and confirmed on the car title as well as the car itself that this is the correct model of the vehicle we own. Yes, GS 300.

Chilton is hiding their information from me.. Fruitless searches. Amazon is of no use, can't find my model, it lists EVERYTHING from every manufacturer. Hayne's shows a Toyota Camry, here and lists the Lexus model number as ES 300. WTF?

Oh, by the way, I  really like Hayne's description of the online version. It includes video, and related system links within the text. Sounds lovely.

Buy the Camry manual, it has the information you need. It covers the following makes/models:

Toyota Camry 1997 - 2001
Toyota Avalon 1997 - 2001
Toyota Solara 1999 - 2001
Lexus ES300 1997 - 2001

I agree with Jim's advice.

I had a Lexus and they were made by Toyota.

They are well-made vehicles.

What problem are you having besides finding a manual?

So the designation of GS for my car translates to ES in Toyota speak?

It's an oil leak yet to be tracked down.

The 2001 ES and 2001 GS use different calipers. The ES and Camry use the same calipers.  Toyota and Lexus is like Chevy and Cadillac, the same but different. What is your question on the brake job? The rear rotor is also a rear drum with the parking brakes inside the rotor. If you are just changing the caliper and or pads you won't be fiddling with the parking brake. If you are changing the rotor you will be. Parking brakes get limited use so the likelihood that you would need to buy new shoes for the parking brake is small.
Look at the surface of the rotor is it extremely grooved? smooth? There is a min max width of the rotor. For the Lexus GS300 min thickness is .413 inches, new the width is .47
