Can you reuse lids for vacuum sealing?

I know it is not recommended to re-use lids for typical water bath or pressure canning, but does the same hold true for vacuum sealing? Specifically dry goods?

My wife vacuum seals coffee beans in mason jars and reuses the lids over and over and over. The seal needs to be clean and even then it doesn't seal 100% but there doesn't seem to be an issue with lid-reuse, it's just kind of a finicky process.

I have the sense that with canning, the seal is deformed by the heat.

I've been reusing the lids on my storage mason jars since I got the vacuum sealer.  I would suggest that you get a lid "lifter" to reduce any damage to the canning lids.  I store my dry veggies in my old quart canning jars, then for everyday use I fill my old pint jars, (mostly blue with a couple of green ones) resealing the quart jars.  I've been using the same lids since June of last year.

I reuse lids.  I do check carefully to be sure the seal is holding.  Although I do not do it regularly, I have reused carefully selected lids for pressure canning.  Once again, I checked the seal carefully.

To me, vacuum sealing is a whole different ballgame so I feel lids could be reused if they are in good condition.

That is the problem with lids now days.  Mine are never good enough to reuse as there are bad spots on them.

Course you can!  All you have to do is check to see if it sealed.  If you're concerned about a jar, keep it in sight and check on it every few days.  One thing I like to remind folks about to help them feel more confident about preserving food is this:  The FDA didn't exist 100 years ago.  Those folks recommend and warn about all kinds of nonsense that many generations of folks before them did their whole lives and survived just fine.  That said, everyone's got to weigh these things out for themselves and do what feels right to you.

But, I still know folks who can, and even vacuum seal, re-using jars from the grocery store!  Pasta jars, jelly jars, etc.,

Here's the best advice I was given regarding food preservation and learning what works and what doesn't:  Whatever method it is you're wondering about, try it out on a jar or two and keep an eye on them.  If they don't seal or you have doubts about them, you can just pop them in the Fridgidaire and use them first or reseal them again another way that works.
