Now days I watch a lot of shows on HGTV.

there is nor mush on TV that gets my attention.  I like kids cooking show, and I am watch a couple of reality shows.

Everyone talks about what kind of architecture that they like.

Craftsman, Modern, Cape Cod, Ranch, Farmhouse, etc.

I would describe my house as School House;

I will have to search my computer to see if I can find a picture.  The ones I remember from the real estate ad was Garage.  They just did not show the architectural feature. Something similar to this:

I found this article on popular styles:

How would you describe the style of your house?

Our house started out as a carriage house for a mansion down the block, that burned down a long time ago. In the 1890s, the guy that owned it donated it to his nephew, who converted in into a house. It's two stories plus an attic and  a basement. Apparently, it originally sat one lot to the north, and a basement was dug in the current location and then the house was moved on top of the basement. The original pine floors upstairs have lots of places where there are four parallel scratches running together, from pitchforking hay, and there are three layers of wood floor on the first floor, presumably because the original ones got destroyed by horse carriages.  It looks like a regular old house now, but you can see the old polebarn-style contruction in the attic.

Well, Our home style is early American rustic...
A better description would be a 95-year-old log cabin with 60 years' worth of additions.

I have a pretty traditional 70’s ranch. Except …over the years I have disguised it as much as I can to look like an old farmhouse. I guess I have been pretty successful.  A few years back I had a visitor make a comment about “these old farmhouses”.

Using that article on styles, I guess we're about 50% cabin, 30% cottage, and 20% ranch.

Not really sure what this style of log home is called - but the garage is on one end, the greatroom on the other, and the deck is off the greatroom...
