John--

Interesting.  I can see how New Hampshire, with its proclivity for voting bi-partisan, independent and third-party voting, would vote for a candidate dedicated to "straight talk."

Moreover, I can remember the 1990's politics well, and given the political climate of the time, again, I can see how "straight talk" would play well.

I just wish I remembered more.  In fact, I wish I even heard about it in the first place.  And this is kinda crazy as I was a History major in the 1990s and followed political news very closely.

I wish I had more to add.

I remember Pat Paulson but not his political party name although I must have heard it at the time....and wasn't he on the Smother's Brothers?
1968 is when I graduated highschool and began college that summer.
My politics centered around stopping the war.

Wasn't the current President of Ukraine a comedian in his past?

Comedians tend to be well-spoken, creative, intelligent, and insightful. I think work in that field could be an asset in Politics.

Hi Judith,

What I found interesting is that he had a well developed, if twisted platform. It seems as if running for office supported him until his death.

He was anti gun banning. He did want bullets banned.   This was to satisfy hunters who felt the thrill was in the hunt and not killing. “Think of the thrill of sneaking up on a grizzly with an unloaded gun.”

Yes, he was on the Smothers Brothers …but it seems his office seeking went well beyond that. When Bob Doyle criticized him for making fun of the office, he stated he had as much right to run as all the other comedians seeking office.
