Total Isolation

Yesterday, all folks in my area where totally isolated from the outside world.  All roads were closed going north, south, east and west.

The July Flood 2026 was less tragic than the July 4, 2025 that killed 100.

Flood warning (Text messages and Phone calls) were put in place and this seems to have worked.  Also folks used the buddy system calling friends and family.

The towns of Uvalde and Batesville were under water.

I live on top of a mountains so we were unaffected except for the fact that my FedEx deliveries did not happen.

Boy, you made a wise choice to live on a mountain top!

These big flash floods are happening more often now in your area?
I'm glad everyone had some warning.

Stay safe.  I’ve known too many who died or were seriously injured being foolish during challenging weather.

Wow Anne, I used the look at US hydrological climate models while I was looking for a place to settle down.  Texas was not overly wet in any of them.  But mountain top speaks volumes of practicality, stay safe.  Love that Sepp. Cheers

I once lived in a place that had a lot of what the locals called "ravines". Steep-sided, quite deep valleys with a small creek in the bottom. At one time, most people figured these were just left-overs from the glaciers melting after the last ice-age. Then we had a storm of the century, and houses near the bottom got washed away, and some people (thankfully not many), lost their lives.

Even though I was not personally affected, it has made me very aware that "flood plains" don't always look like flood plains, and building on high, stable ground is important. The downside may be high winds, but there are ways to deal with those also!

Everyone stay safe - there's some wild weather happening and it's not over yet...

Normally we are in a drought then in March, July and November, we have floods.
