These guys are Australian and having fun with the permaculture principles and a ukelele (spelling? )
I saw Charlie live at a Ripenear.me launch and his energy was infectious even after a hard days work.

I just recently discovered these guys (and gals) and they are seriously amazing!

From their website: "By busting out live shows based around the principles of Permaculture (regenerative ecological design), Formidable Vegetable Sound System is paving the way for a new kind of musical activism based around simple, fun solutions to some of the largest problems on the planet and are rapidly becoming a favourite on the Australian and international festival circuit with packed dance floors and workshops alike."

Here are a bunch of their amazing videos! :

I love just watching them jam here too:

Their music was also featured in the movie Permaculture Orchard!!

You can learn tons more about them on their website: Formidable Vegetable Sound System

The main vocals and producer is this guy: Charlie McGee

They also have a whole Permaculture Blog and a New Blog.

Last, but CERTAINLY not least, here is where to support them and BUY AND LISTEN TO THEIR MUSIC!

Their songs are wonderful! Thank you for telling us about them! I saw he thumbnails and the YouTube videos and want to mention that Charlie Mgee from the Formidable Vegetables Band has a wonderful playlist on YouTube of permaculture songs that he made himself:

I love his voice, and his songs are just beautiful!

Formidable Vegetable also provided the music for The Permaculture Orchard DVD (available at www.permacultureorchard.com), for which Paul/Permies was the "Supreme Executive Producer with Bacon, Cheese and Sparkles". I received a Formidable Vegetable CD for contributing to the kickstarter, which was a great unexpected bonus. I love their music.

My interview with Charlie Mgee of Formidable Vegetable Sound System!! As you can see from the thumbnail, this was a ridiculously fun chat we had. Also, per my request, he sings his song "Many Many", all about the power of diversity in our communities and tribe.

Guess what, everyone!? After three years of painstaking beet-propagation and cross-pollination, the permaculture electroswing remix album of the century is finally out!
I'm stoked to share with you the result of many permaculture dance parties, festivals and collaborations around the world: Radish Beets!

We've also had a funky new music video made for one of the more bangin' tracks: The Edge, remixed by Aussie wonk-meister, Spoonbill. Check it out:

If you want to have a listen or nab yourself a copy, just head to http://music.formidablevegetable.com.au/album/radish-beets and Turnip the Radish Beets!
Thanks for all your support!!
Lots of love, Charlie. X

PS. We're hoping to do an epic permaculture electroswing tour of North America in 2017, so if you have any ideas of venues/festivals/farms to play where we could round up a serious amount of people (permies and otherwise) Lettuce know!

Hey y'all! So, after a cracking remix album launch, it's straight onto the next project: A PERMACULTURE ELECTRO-FUNK UKULELE ALBUM FOR KIDS!! We've just launched our crowdfunding campaign to raise some funds for it, as it's going to be an EPIC production (including guest stars such as Michael Barker - ex drummer of the John Butler Trio!)

To check out what it's all about, take a gander at this video and please donate at http://www.pozible.com/project/198488 if you support what we're doing!

Thanks in advance and keep doing the good work!

Howdy folks! You might've seen it kicking around alongside the new Polyfaces film, but our latest music video: 'You Are What You Eat' is up on YouTube if you want to have a listen/give it a share!

It was written for the International Year of Soils last year at the request of Vandana Shiva and even shared by the United Nations! Happy days!

We'll hopefully be touring the States next year in 2017, so hit me up with your ideas of festivals/gigs we could do at charlie@permaculturesongs.com
Big Love!

Love the kimchi song.

We've had more than one jar of kimchi explode on the way home from the shop, so we started making our own.  That reminds me, I just used up the kimchi.  Time to make more.

I borrowed my friends kid and we watched all the videos on this thread.  He says that the kimchi one is his favourite.  I like yield best.  Next week, we will prepare for a very messy kimchi making marathon with a 5-year-old 'in charge' of making the kimchi... hmm, I need to start a thread on how to make kimchi with a kid as I have no idea on the best way to do this.

Hey Charlie,

Do you ship to Canada?

A friend of mine adores your music.  He's particularly obsessed with the kimchi song - and who can blame him?

Do you have anything along those lines coming out that could get here by Christmas?  I see you have some CDs and a colouring book for sale.

Does this one include the kimchi song?

Any other physical goodies on the horizon?  Shipping isn't always quick to Canada, so I'm eager to do my Holiday shopping early.

Good question, thanks comrade Ranson!
Yes, we do ship everywhere in the world and you can order the physical CDs here:

http://music.formidablevegetable.com.au

(it comes with an activity book containing recpies/garden tips etc, not a colouring book... but you're welcome to draw on it if you want!)

Hi USA/Turtle Island friends! Guess what?

Well, two things, really:
Number One: we have a BRAND NEW SONG ABOUT HUMANURE (which I'll post at the end of this thread, so you read the SECOND thing first!) and...
Number Two (haha, quite the appropriate number following a comment about Humanure!):
WE ARE COMING TO THE USA THIS MAY/JUNE!
Yes, Australia's premier Permaculture Electroswing Ukulele outfit, Formidable Vegetable Sound System will be on tour in the United States from May 3 (starting in Hawaii) to June 11.

I'm currently in turbo-charged gig-booking mode, so please feel welcome to send any suggestions/invites for (paid) gigs/festivals to : charlie *at* permaculturesongs *dot* com.
(It's no cheap feat touring from Australia, so while I would love to come and play at all of the fundraisers/parties/permie shindigs in exchange for food/friends/love, I really need to prioritise exchanges in the form of the boring old-fashioned green stuff in order to pay the band and get us over there!)

Hope to hear from & see y'all soon!
And now, for your listening/viewing pleasure... a SONG!
(FYI: a "Dunny" is our good old Aussie word for a backyard toilet!)

Hi Folks,
We (Formidable Veg), Spoonbill, Dropbear and Brenna Quinlan poured heart and soul into this one for the good of the world, so we really hope you like it.

We think it's a message that definitely needs to be heard now. If you have any friends in the media (mainstream or social media champions), please indulge us with 5 minutes of your time to personally send it to them. With no budget to spend on a classic marketing campaign, we're relying on organic shares and word of mouth (or rather, keyboard) to get this out as far and wide as we can.

If you're part of any organisations who send out a newsletter, political parties, community groups... whatever, please feel free to send this release (below) around to help us spread the word. Thank you so much for being such wonderful supporters! It means more than ever right now. May your respective regenerative lives be blooming with goodness. Love, Charlie (Formidable Vegetable)

FORMIDABLE VEGETABLE with SPOONBILL

NEW SINGLE: 'CLIMATE MOVEMENT' (a post-pandemic manifesto)

"People in every walk of life are trying to work out how to change their behaviour to fight climate change. One example is the Australian electro-funk band Formidable Vegetable, who have been turning down huge gigs including the Glastonbury festival in the UK and a show at the Sydney Opera House because they don't want to fly."
- BBC World Service Feb 2020.

Listen/Download Track Here: https://formidablevegetable.fanlink.to/climate
A call to action for these trying times, Climate Movement is a collaboration between eco-funk/swing band, Formidable Vegetable and internationally renowned EDM producer, Spoonbill. In an increasingly chaotic and destructive world, Permaculture is one of the best tools for designing community-scale solutions for regenerative global change. This is an anthemic and heartfelt invitation to summon the skills that you have and use them now with others around you to build the sustainable world we desperately need. Featuring Mal Webb on trombone, Kylie Morrigan on strings and high-end production of cinematic proportions, this track is history in the making. Get amongst it.
