How do you keep chickens and a garden working well together?

Hi everyone,
How do you manage chickens and a vegetable garden on the same small homestead?
I like the idea of using chicken manure and kitchen scraps, but I’m worried about chickens digging up mulch and destroying young plants.
Do you keep them completely separate, or rotate them through different areas?
What kind of fencing or setup has worked well for you without creating a lot of daily work?
