That's a lot more work than I thought. I just did some pieces of banana peel in a cup, poured boiling hot water over it and let it stand for about half an hour and then drank it. Of course it didn't taste 'nice', but it wasn't bad, and it worked (to sleep)
I only go to the effort once a week, to make the concentrate, then add that to very
hot water, as needed, each night. So, once a week, it takes about 15 minutes of work and a bit of stove time (while I'm off doing other things), and just long
enough to heat a cup of
water, each night.
The spices have more function that just making it taste nice, though. Nutmeg is analgesic, and that's important for me, as pain often keeps me awake, but is also sedative, promotes a strong immune system, strengthens cognitive function, slows aging, and promotes healthy circulation. Cinnamon helps balance blood sugar, allowing me a more restful sleep, without the hormonal fluctuations my hypoglycemia often causes, as well as being high in antioxidants, is antifungal, and antibacterial, and is believed to fight neuro-degenerative health issues. Cinnamon and nutmeg are also both warming, and my hubs needs the house very cool at night, which also can disturb my sleep quality. Vanilla is good for reducing inflammation and anxiety, it's helpful for respiratory conditions, and promotes good digestion. The sweetener - I use stevia - is just because I like it, lol. Sometimes, I'll add a touch of cream. I make it part of my bedtime routine, and sit down with a good book, sip my tea, and just take time to make it a relaxing way to wind down. For me, the ritual is as beneficial as the ingredients in the cup.
