This sounds like a great project -- I'm sorry to hear it came about in such a sad way.

I purchased 7 acres in the center of Portugal for my Parents to retire. It was a slow project but in a great spot. 4 years ago my Mom Died so my Dad and I continued. Then covid ensued caused the chaos we all felt. He got sick from a medical clinic visit and passed. Sad times.

We never started the final plans of cottages and now I am looking for a next generation that I could provide a unique possibility for their generational wealth. Its kind of a blank canvas with good infrastructure.

We finished a great workshop that is now a cottage fully operational offgrid. I live here now.

There are so many things to discuss with anyone interested. My question is.. Is, anyone interested in moving to Portugal and making a commitment to a long term plan?

Otis #11

50 acres rural, remote, off-grid ocean-front property on the west coast of British Columbia.  Owners wish to age in place and are looking for a land sharing arrangement with a younger individual or family.  Approximately 80% of the property is wooded.  Two acres are cleared with gardens and a young fruit and nut orchard.  Eight acres are in bush and available for further permaculture activities.  Owners live in a small cabin with solar panels, picohydro, wood stove (including a wood shed), and a few small out buildings.  Interested partners would need to build their own cabin and infrastructure.  Property is 16 miles by boat from the nearest community, and another hour’s drive to a hardware store.  Homestead has a new two-wheeled tractor and implements available for use in land clearing, a “bush” truck, and various other tools, but interested partners would have to invest their own capital in building their home on the property.  Owners would like to go through a period of “getting to know each other” with the interested partner, which would, if all was copacetic, lead to a registered profit à prendre on the land title, and ultimately to inheritance of the land via the owners’ wills.

As you'll notice, some of these Otis listings are short and sweet, others are more detailed.  That's all based on the amount of info they were willing to share with me.

Current tally of Otises that have contacted me is 31
