It's that time again to see what changed with the temps at the Abbey.   I think it's worth noting that things seem reasonably sealed up now.  I noticed when I open the back door to feed the cats the front door tries to open, apparently due to pressure. So far, it took about 45 minutes to make breakfast and I may skip lunch and wait until dinner to fire up the stove again.  I don't know if these details seem trivial or of some interest to anyone fallowing along but I was asked to add them more frequently In my posts.

It's definitely nice to see the temps, it seems to stay fairly consistent inside, albeit a bit chilly in the mid 50 range, while outside temps vary more. So there is some thermal mass helping there. Hopefully next year the mass can charge up a bit more, and then sit closer to 60 inside vs 55.

More pictures of the window quilts, as requested.

As for how I use them and my general routine -  i've moved some plants around to the least questionable windows and lift those quilts almost every day and drop them at night. There's one window that's a problem tho and I've done my best to tuck that quilt in and leave it alone ( the first one to the right of the door).  A few of them have a precise fit but not much extra on the sides and a few seem to come up a little shy, as you can see.  They're all pretty much long enough at the bottom and top tho.

Another week another bumpy green line with numbers n' stuff.

Looks like the Abbey lost a little more steam and it's hard to say why.  Could be the extra dose of visitors recently, the cats out back that require a few extra door openings a day, less big meals on the stove or maybe the natural loss of interia as the winter continues.  However, the answer is most likely - Yes.

I'm watching the liquid kind of snow coming down so shouldn't be long until the walk-in freezer becomes an aquarium.

This week started pretty warm and it's ending cold again.   Looks like the graphs reflect that with subtle fluctuations.

The graph data from this week shows a consistent climb back out of winter and into spring, yet a gain.

Not much different this week for the graphs.  Next year I'm sure we'll be glad we've got the data.

I'm including the "outside Abbey" graph for what's probably an obvious reason.  The chateau sensor is acting strangely.  Hopefully a battery swap will fix the issue.

Other than that, I'm not going to say we're finally in spring and spur winter into retaliation mode again.

Another round of graphs - the chateau sensor seems to be working properly after a battery swap but it doesnt have a week of data yet.  I'm using the outside Abbey sensor again, instead.

A week full of mildly chilly mornings and, not what I expected for this time of year, warm afternoons.  Make no mistake, I'm not complaining about the warmth.  It is ambiguity free awesomeness after a consistently nippy winter.  Here's the charts, showing the waltz up.

I now have a much better appreciation of those temps and humidities as I've watched my own in Dog Star.

I think the summer challenge is how much the temperature in the mass of the bedroom wall can go up to moderate the swings next winter.  I suggested last year that a compost probe thermometer could be inserted into the wall berm between the logs and the change each week tracked.
In my brain is a test design with minimum direct solar gain but maximum indirect solar gain.  By putting a metal rain collecting/heat collecting roof over the south berm.  Pipes circulating through the berm would have valves so that heated air could enter the top of the loops and exit the bottom but not reverse when the roof cools.  Of course you could reverse that if  the climate or a storage space required cooling .

There was a heat wave fallowed by a cold front and if I had to guess, it'll be fallowed by more mood swings. The Abbey has gained some of its intertia back pretty quickly at least.

Averaging right around 55 degrees with a humidity bump, probably from the recent rains and maybe some laundry as well.

When the outside temp warms up past 55, like today, I usually open the windows.  At least until I decide to use the stove and then it all gets closed up again so I don't get back smoke.

I can see the tables turning some in perspective and the Abbey turning into a welcome escape from the inferno of late spring and summer.  As of late, at 55 it's reasonably comfortable tho.

A day late and a graph short.  Looks like the outside wall near stove pipe needs a battery swap.

It's been a sunny week with fairly frequent light rains and as much as a 35 or 40 degree temperature differential between dawn and mid afternoon outside.  The Abbey did a good job to dempen those swings down and keep its cool but not cold.

Also, disregard some of the peak high temps from the chateau - that sensor was catching some rays before I moved it back into the shade to get true temp.

Really great to see the data. Thanks for posting the monthly shots. It would be great for the community if data were shared in csv or excel format so anyone can analyze and help make graphs over longer time periods with dates of particular interventions (e.g., weather stripping).

I second the vote for fuel data as well. But, easy for me to request more sitting over here in WI. : )

Thanks for everyone's work and conversation!

Here's what I was able to capture. The sensor on the wall outside the Abbey wouldn't send any data. The bedroom sensor would get through about 10% of the update and then stop. It got some of the temps, at least.
