HELP! I am L@@King for Help to find any one of several RMH Construction videos showing using the Lid of a 55 gallon Drum used to Spot the correct location and

Perimeter of the Barrel, and the RMHs Burner Base. THis will also make creating the Manifold and the Transitional area much easier, and outline the final Keyhole

Footprint !

Several people have built-up their Brick combustion core, stoping when level across the bridging bricks over the Burn Tunnel and also across a base layer of the

Heat Riser.

This allows the lid from a 55 gallon barrel to be used to find and mark the best location for 1) The overturned barrel to mate with the matching top of the outer

ring of the manifold,2) Check size and scale of the Manifold, 3) Locate areas for additional insulation, both inside the manifold and to cover the manifold, 4) Check

final thickness and location of Cob/ Cob and Brick outer shell, and final Keyhole Shaped Footprint of the RMHs Burner Base!

I have seen at least two versions, 1) done outdoors, probably at a weekend workshop. 2) another where this Technique was used in finding the Correct location of

the Burner Base Keyhole in a Greenhouse, the Greenhouse May have been unfinished when the RMH build was documented.

Ether of these Videos would make a good visual aide to get a hard to explain point across! I expect that just like at the weekend workshop it will save hours of

finding and checking the layout and quickly catch missteps. Especially for any 1st time builders !

I promise to give a well earned Apple for whoever tracks down a good video showing this, or a series of pictures showing this, and adds a Tread Extension onto
this thread

Hi Allen,

The videos you describe, ring a bell in my mind but I couldn't find them. Searching for terms like "setting the barrel" and "removable barrel".

Here is a thread with pics showing the lid of a barrel being used to seat the barrel over the riser as well as create the manifold. Also, the video with Ernies "barrel and a half" method.

David Eaks : I AM NOT CRAZY! I went looking all over and used our search engine about every way I could think off ! The John Adamz Video I fully expected
to find in the RMHs in Greenhouses Extentions, because as you can tell from the picture, John was using the ground in his green house as a thermal
mass. If memory serves me right I believe he tore his apart to place insulation around the Burn tunnel to raise its temps a little more. He also offset his barrel
just to promote a smoother flow of air into the Transitional area, this was one of the 1st I ever saw using splits, 1/2 thickness Fire brick !

Big Al,

There is a diagram of the keyhole pattern positioned over the base pad brick layout, plus the combustion core and riser brick layout to boot, all on the proposed cover of E&E's upcoming book, Rocket Mass Heater Builder's Guide.

A high-rez image will be found at the top of this thread:

There's a nice shot of the brick J-tube with ceramic wool insulated firebrick splits constructed riser in this vid:

Here's a video showing the construction of the RMH base brick layout and using the keyhole shaped location pattern; at 10~12 seconds in:
