the missing videos - embedded videos not showing up

Is there any way that the video embeds can be fixed so they're visible on older systems? I can't see them at all now. This is a recentish thing but it goes back in time eg I just found a thread from 2013 where someone had replaced the link with an embed and now it's invisible to me.

I'm on a mac, OS10.6, Firefox 39.0 and Safari 5.1.0

Can you give us a link to the thread/post with the invisible video in? It might just be that the video has been removed, or it might be something else. Or does this apply to all videos?

thanks Burra, it looks like all embedded videos. You know how people are going round saying "I'll embed that for you"? Well the video is then invisible and if the link is also removed I can't even tell there is a video there. It wouldn't be a problem if there was a link as well but people are removing the link when they embed.

OK, well that video shows up fine for me, so it's not that the video has been removed.

I'll ask to see if anyone has any more ideas. It might be that something on your computer needs adjusting to allow them to be seen.

I'm not suggesting that the video has been removed. I'm suggesting that when the link gets embedded it's not visible to me. That people are replacing or removing the actual visible URL link means I can't even go to youtube to watch it.

I do have flashblock, but normally websites allow me to choose to turn it on for any given page i.e. the link is visible or the embed is replaced with a flash icon to click on. Plus I have permies.com whitelisted so it shouldn't be blocking flash on this site. I can see embedded video on other websites ok.

I have been able to see video on permies in the past, not sure about the embedded ones though.

I have this problem too. My solution was just to not watch any videos that people post. :/

btw, there are some odd things going on with this thread. I lost my editing rights on a comment last night and a couple of posts weren't showing up in my 'My Posts' list for a while. I see that Will has multiple comments in my 'My Posts' list etc.

Firefox on XP, with a block plus and permies + youtube on allow lists. Also on my android phone in firefox.

I'm another person with this same problem. I'm using Firefox on a laptop running windows 7. (Which keeps telling me to upgrade to Windows 10, which I might do next week. Maybe that will solve whatever the issue is for me.)

I can see the embeds on my iphone running 8.3 and Safari.

Can we see some screen captures so we can see what the problem looks like?

I don't have an online photo storage place at the moment and I think that's the only way to upload images here right?

(the following comment says it edited the first comment and embedded the video so I assume they also removed the bare link i.e. it's not that I can't see the link, it's that it's not actually there. I assume the embed is in the 1.5" gap).

I just discovered that in the posts where the embed isn't visible, if I click on the quote reply button, I can see the URL for the embed, and its tags, in the text reply box.

Can't do that with your comment though Devaka (the reply text box is completely empty, not even your text is in it), what did you do?

If there is a "feature" querystring added to the url the video won't play. I notice a similar pattern on other videos.
For example....

From the https://permies.com/forums/posts/list/120/29327 post about the Rocket Mass Heater in the teepee.
