I've just treated myself to a copy of How to Read the Landscape by Patrick Whitefield, which has been on my wishlist for some time.

Beautiful news, I have the problem I really can't read on a computer screen. But this is a great opportunity by Permanent publications.

excellent choice I think its his best, I learnt so much from it, it gives keys to observation I had never thought about.

I got 'Around the World in 80 plants' and Aranyas 'Permaculture Design- a step by step guide'- the latter I have always wanted but wasn't sure how much I'd learn form it, and the former has nice pictures!

I can't really read on a computer screen, but I can on a Kindle (non backlit). Though the kindle can't show images very well- so I've always been hesitant of buying the ebooks before, and have instead bought the physical book. But £2.99 was a good price for trying out the ebook versions!

I really like having 'searchable copies' of books, though I'm not quite going to buy ebooks of physical books that I already own!

I did a review of Aranya's Permaculture Design book here.

I'm supposed to be writing one of Around the World in 80 Plants, too, but every time I pick it up I get absorbed into it and end up ordering seeds and and forgetting what I'm supposed to be doing. It's the sort of book that takes you over and gets you doing stuff. I can't recommend it highly enough, but don't expect it to be a passive experience!

I got tempted last night by Ben Law's The Woodland Year, because it was just so awesomely nostalgic for me to be transported back to a UK woodland, and also Patrick Whitefield's How to Make a Forest Garden. I used to have a physical copy of that book but when I sold the land in Wales I gave it to the girls who bought it to try to ensure that they looked after it properly. I've always kind of regretted losing it, as it was my very first introduction to permaculture, and I'm rather glad to have an affordable opportunity to replace it.

Most of the £2.99 ebooks have downloadable samples so you can check them out before you commit. Though in my case I'm almost completely incapable of not buying them when I get a taster...

Thank you very much for posting this. I live in a tiny space and although I love books and magazines they do end up taking over the place and periodically I have to have a purge and either give them away or place them into storage where they are difficult to access and in all likelihood will never see the light of day again.

Having the books in pdf format means I can have then all with me all the time in a searchable form.

I have a few books that I would never get rid of and one of them id The Earth Care Manual by the late Patrick Whitefield. The only criticism of the book is is is so big I cannot take it with me to the allotment on my bike etc. I am going to re buy this book as a pdf so it will always be with me on my phone and I can print out relevant pages and keep them at the allotment.

I am a very happy man

The Farmer's Handbooks (http://www.green-shopping.co.uk/ebooks/free-ebooks/the-farmers-handbook-volume-two-near-the-house-i.html) are especially wonderful resources. I'm only part way through one of them, and have already learned quite a few useful things. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge!

I should have waited! I recently bought 3 ebooks from them (to be fair it was also a good deal because the third was free for buying the first two!, but this would have been even cheaper). Well, time to stock up on reading material!

I have no idea how to get an e-book from the net side to my kindle! (I am not computer savvy).

I love my kindle, but I only know how to buy from the Amazon website that popped up when I turned the kindle on.

Any advice as to how to obtain some of those yummy looking books and put it on my kindle instead of my computer?

I download the file from the green-shopping website to my computer, then plug the Kindle into the PC and use software called 'Calibre' to transfer between the two. Calibre handles file types and things, and keeps a backup of all my Kindle books should I lose it or something. (I can give more detailed information if you want to go down this route, purple moosage me)

When you are in the ebook webpage (within green-shopping) you can select the type of file according to your reader, in this case you would select MOBI or MOBIPOCKET which are the ones optimized for Kindle. You will receive an email with a link to download the file. When you have the file in your computer you have several options: you can transfer it via the usb cable into your kindle by connecting it to your computer. You can also send it via email to your kindle account and it will download automatically onto your device or there are also "send to kindle" apps for pc, mac, etc. You can go to http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle for details on every method.

How does the kindle get plugged into the PC?
