Hey all,

I made this drop spindle today, and had the idea that I'd come up with some fun way to let a permie win it, and I can't figure anything out.......ill think on it some more.....

Spinners tell me what you think, it weighs 60 grams is 11 inches long and 2 7/8 inch worl

That looks gorgeous. I really like that shape of hook for drop spinning. Also, the way you made the shaft narrow where the yarn winds, then widen near the bottom is really neat.

Have you taken it for a test spin yet?

No, not this one, but I made a bunch for the lady we got the goats from, those worked well. She had a fiber shop and her wood turning freind was ill so I was able to help her out with some inventory.

I make the hooks at the top, mostly because you can adjust the angled hook to be in line with the axis of the spindle, and the thread/yarn won't slip sideways, it makes a big difference to the user that coffee cup hooks can't give.

A lot of them are a dowel glued in, I find that turning the whole thing as one with the two already joined makes a much more balanced spindle.

Ok, so I got out a pinch of mohair and tried it, notice I am no expert but.....you get the idea!

Yes, she yells at the bird feeder from inside the window! We call it kitty TV!

She came out of the woods and adopted us, spayed and well mannered, I think she was a drop off, but a great cat, and I'm not a cat person so that is saying something.....

beautiful spindle! the weight seems within common spindle range, a little over 2oz.

perhaps take a look over at my thread where I am putting up videos of fiber working and spinning. I have some videos in the works where I will go from raw fleece to yarn to probably knitted item.

I'm exploring how to make a drop-spindle using natural things from the land. Could you describe how you made it? Would love to know what wood you used and your technique in shaping the acorn.

Also, I've seen someone use clay for the base - know any other ways to get creative?
